Thanks, Brad They turned out to be what I thought they were. What I didn’t remember, was confused about, was quarter notes. I was thinking that a quarter note was a note. I now recall that the whole note as written is hollow. I guess that means that the individual notes of a quarter note triplet are actually twelfth notes. Anyway, I only know them (triplets) as that little run that finishes up the 12-bar thingy in 12-bar blues. Maybe the eleventh bar? Da da da, da da da, da da da, da da da, dahhhh. I can’t do this any more. Makes my head hurt. All my attention is required for keeping my plectern untangled, and pointed toward the strings. (Some one should make one with a built-in keyway!) |

ladies and germs, without further adude, my new Garrison G-25 acoustic axe! and to sweeten the deal a bit, our brand-new copy of "Classic Ferrington Guitars" (including CD!) came today, too. folks, this has been one of the best rides of my life, and the beauty part is that i'm just lettin' out the clutch. this thread has rocked from the beginning, and props and thanks to everyone who has got up on stage and jammed along the way. i asked for advice on what to look for in a GOOD acoustic guitar, y'all came forth, and this guitar, now sitting next to me in the office, is the result. THANK YOU! Newf, thanks for the shout out for Garrison. i think it's the coolest thing in the world that i now own one. BluzM2 (Brad), thank you a TON for what you and your son Carl did, in making THIS particular Garrison take the long trip to California. and Court, thanks for the comedy, the encouragement, and the care package -- i'll be a rock star before you know it! this'll sound corny, but screw it: i firmly feel that this guitar was waiting for me the whole time - i (with a little help from some friends) just had to point my nose in the wind and find it. or it found me. no matter. it's here, and i've got some fierce learnin' to do. again, thank EVERYONE for joining in. now then. SPECIAL thanks are due Denise. the seeds for this guitar were planted by her on Christmas morning. without her help, i'd still be sittin' here wishin'. thank you Sweetie. ok, i'm outta here. i got some fingers to bleed. That is so SWEET!!!!!! Congratulations Jerry on the fine addition. Is that birch wood on the sides and back.? I guess I have never seen that type of wood used on a guitar before. Swami Brett is envisioning a road trip in the future to check this out in person. |

Jerry, It's been my pleasure! I get a huge boost from seeing people having passion for things in life. I get an even bigger boost when I can in any way fuel someone elses passion. I will pass your message on to Carl. He's "unavailable" right now and will be for a couple of more weeks. Enjoy the guitar Jerry. This music thing gets in your blood and never goes away. Hmmm, kind of like a certain motorcycle some of us know of... Brad |

Woohoo! Good deal, Jerry. Man, you're starting off a lot better than I did. My first guitar was a right-handed Japanese "Cameo" hollow body electric (loosely based on a Gibson ES-335) I bought 2nd hand from a high school classmate when I was 16. I brought it home and re-strung it left handed reusing the original strings. I had the barest notion of "tuning" a guitar- I remember thinking it was sort of "optional", that the guitar would sound "OK" automatically but getting it in tune would just make it sound better. I wondered why I couldn't seem to play a tune on it. Man, that was a LONG time ago. Have fun- keep us informed. We expect weekly audio file updates of your progress. You should be able to play the intro to "Crazy" by Heart note-for-note by next week...

in the last two weeks i've typed 24,097 lines of text. this'll mean absolutely nothing unless you're a fellow medical transcriptionist. (yeah, and i think I'M a stud? for the same timeframe Denise typed 26,995 lines - i am SO not worthy...) i haven't touched my new guitar since i took the pix for y'all Friday afternoon. work has been all-consuming since FBRAT and Oktoberfast - i honestly can't remember our last day off. well, we finished up our account this afternoon, and more jobs won't start rolling in until tomorrow morning when the doctors go back to work. which means i've got about 12 hours off. six of those hours i plan to sleep. the bulk of it will be spent making love to my new axe. i don't even know how to tune it yet, but i've got a brand-new Korg Chromatic CA-30 tuner sitting here, and i'm about to stick the batteries in it and begin Lesson One. the CD that came with the Ferrington guitar book is presently playing in the Bose, as deeply inspirational inspiration, and if i could EVER play like Ry Cooder or Richard Thompson, well, it'd be a dream come true. first things first. i gots me a tunin' to do. ps: Capt. Pete, i feel like i've slighted you by not acknowledging your presence, and i'm sorry. your contributions on this thread have been both educational and entertaining, and i appreciate your warm and witty ways. here's hoping we get to meet someday (Garrison Hill in St. Johns, Newfoundland has a nice ring to it), but in the meantime thanks for your words, and your friendship. smooth seas, Sir. Jerry...Hurry up and get with the program and getter dun! I know you had other things to take care of besides work which took #1 priority over the guitar but it has been 2+ days now since its arrival! Here is a few books that I use that have been very helpful and fun in my very slow learning progress with the guitar.
