So, a few days back we had that thread going about dog eating and not buying stuff from China. Blake said people mistreating dogs was similar to the way several races and religious groups have been mistreated in the past. Buellinmke came in and made a flagrantly abusive post that said Blake was a racist pig, ignorant, and a piece of sh*t among other things. I've never met Blake, but I defended him, as well as several other Badwebbers. From what I've seen on this board, and what I've heard about him from many Buellers, including my Dad, nothing has ever shown me that he was even CLOSE to fitting that description. So here's a PM I received today from Buellinmke: "fu*k you, fu*king white trash piece of sh*t. i have lived my entire life under the scrutiny of the fu*kng white man, i have served my country for longer than you have been alive and you disrespect me because i call out a racist pig. you deserve to rot in hell, you f*cking bigot. f*ck off. joe" WOW First I want to say, Joe, I got no problem putting your e-mail here for EVERYONE to see. It might show them who REALLY has the racism in their heart. I make that statement with something to actually back it up, because your message shows you have nothing but disdain for anyone who's white. I don't care who's done what to you in your life. If you've suffered through bigots, racism or mistreatment because you're black, I'm sorry. But nothing you've done in your life, including serving your country, gives you the right to redirect that treatment towards anyone else you see fit. I'm in the military, I'm sacrificing MY freedom, putting MY life at risk, and you have the nerve to say I'm a racist, a pig and a piece of sh*t. You're a real piece of work, and you better hope when I get back to the states that you and I don't cross paths, 'cause this issue would be settled in all of five seconds. Second, to Badwebbers reading this, this forum is really bummin' me out sometimes. It's supposed to be about Buells, bikes, friendship, camaraderie and being different than everyone else. The name calling, political rants, and thread hijacking are not indicative of what Badweb is supposed to be. So please, keep it to yourself, or at least keep it reasonable. Amen Wade! Unfortunately this type of crap rears it's ugly head on every forum at one time or another. That's why I tend to stick to the tech sections. I don't wish to debate race, religion, politics or any of the other social aspects of everyday life. Wade -- while I agree that the email sender is outa line, and clearly has some problems that are far deeper than might otherwise be obvious -- I would councel against banning the person. if this is the first time he's gone off like a rocket, he should be given the benefit of the doubt we all have bad days/weeks/months, and comparing the inhumane treatement of dogs to the other crimes mentioned is a bit off the page, I beleive . . . . . also, I agree about some part of the board -- it's clear that Badweb is a good example of the internet at it's best . . . .and it's worst (close to it, anyways) -- after a little while, you'll be able to determine if a thread is worth your while or not, and participate in those you're interested in, and avoid those you're not . . . good rule of thumb (but not always accurate) is that a thread whose post-count goes up like a skyrocket in no time at all is likely a urination contest over an obscure point of politics/religion (which covers way more ground than I woulda thought a couple of years ago) -- easy to avoid that kinda thing, if you want . . . | ||

I was kind of shocked by Blake's statement, too, but I never, ever thought Blake was being racist. Insensitive perhaps, but not racist. Blake is probably a lot of things, but the only things I can say I know for a fact about him are that he's very emotional when he truly believes what he's saying, and he's never posted anything on this board that could ever be construed as being racist. There are three things I know about life and people; being mean and stupid goes beyond race, poor manners go beyond social strata, being a man goes beyond age. | ||

This looks like three strikes to me. Absent any conciliatory gesture from Joe or whatever his name is, I'm recommending to the other custodians that he be banned. BadWeB has little tolerance for the kind of hatred and vile personal attacks Joe has seen fit to wage via BadWeB. It is a blatant violation of board policy. I suspect the perpetrator is nothing more than a malevolent troll who is out to purposefully inject ill-will and consternation into our midst. And I agree Wade, the folks who interject politics into other threads are not doing the board any favors. Thanks again for your support and thanks for your service. Joe, You are from my perspective not behaving constructively or even rationally. Could it be a tumor? Seriously. I am sorry you feel the way you do. I will only state that I think that you are wrong about me and Wade. I know for certain that I am no nazi. Regardless, you must cease the hateful personal commentary and abuse of the BadWeB private messaging as a means to wage personal attack on others. Blake it is your board, and you do with it what you wantI believe you and the custodians do a fine job!. But in my opinion buellinmike did send these messages by email, and not posted on the board. Or is there a thread that I missed? I see alot of long time BWB'rs say keep it off the board and send your opinions in email, so what gives? | ||

I'd say what gives U4 is the fact that I woke up, logged in to my e-mail account, and right there at the top there's an e-mail with a big old subject line that says: F*CK YOU!!...and then proceeds to give me the racist pig, you're a piece of sh*t rhetoric. Takes a real man to send harassing e-mails. For me it's the other way around, the board is for everyone. E-mail is personal, and I shouldn't have to resort to any extreme measures like turning off Badweb mail to keep from waking up to stuff like that. That e-mail was horrible, and so was the one that Blake received. IT IS HATE MAIL! There are no other words for it. So I reiterate what I said earlier. Buellinmke was out of line on Badweb. Every posting he's made in the last two years has been hate-filled and resorts to calling people Nazi's and such. And now he's taken it even further and sending inane e-mails to my personal mailbox. What else does he have to say, or do, before someone takes the initiative and shuts this guy out of Badweb?? | ||

U4, You may indeed have missed the origination of this unfortunate situation. The hatemonger in question had already made similar accusations on the board then in the face of rebuttal and protest decided to exploit his BadWeB PM privilege to wage his hateful attacks. This is darn near the kind of stuff that will get your ISP service revoked. | ||

Second, to Badwebbers reading this, this forum is really bummin' me out sometimes. It's supposed to be about Buells, bikes, friendship, camaraderie and being different than everyone else. The name calling, political rants, and thread hijacking are not indicative of what Badweb is supposed to be. So please, keep it to yourself, or at least keep it reasonable. Because the people getting bashed just don't deserve it. This why y'all rarely if ever see me post in a political thread. It's also why I refuse to act custodian in such a thread. If it were up to me all such threads would be religated to the Unacceptable/Inappropirate Behavior thread. No threads are deleted only moved from public view so us custodians can hash it out as to what can an can't be posted. Political threads wear me out, because, like y'all, my mind is already made up, and nothing y'all can say or do would likely change my mind, so to me it only serves to •••• me off, and sometimes taint my view of a fellow BadWeBber, before I even get to meet y'all face to face. So I leave these types of threads to those that get so use of them. Oh jeeze I'm ranting...sorry y'all...as you were. What I would really like to say is, Thank you Wade Haughton, and all y'all that do your best to help keep me and mine free. I'm off my soapbox now, sorry 'bout the rant... | ||

One of the reasons why I like BWB so much is because there are so many Buell community members with so many different views on so many different subjects. It really doesn't bother me when I don't agree with what someone is saying and in fact think it would make for rather boring reading if everybody felt the same about everything, but it does bother me when someone "loses it" and resorts to hateful name calling. | ||

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I very easily could have just written a custodian about what happened, and the problem would have probably been solved. But I wanted people to see how a simple posting on Badweb can turn into so much more. Hopefully this thread can serve as some sort of encouragement to not abolish political/religious/ethnic discussion altogether, but to at least keep it sane, safe and friendly. Buellers and Badwebbers r good folk. Let's not ruin what it all stands for over stupid arguments that really don't matter. On a lighter note... 7 MORE DAYS TO GO!!! and I am outta Korea and back to my family. Can't wait for summer to roll up on us and finally get to meet some of ya. FB2 | ||

Wow, I haven't read about the dogs in China for a week and it turns all kinds of crazy. This guy is crazy, not all of us agreed with Blake and some of us did agree but dang how did that turn into racism. I for one think this guy should be banned, it is one thing to take a problem off the board and work it out or not. But to send this kind of hate mail is abusing the PM feature. Blake I hope you and the custodians do take the proper measures and give this guy the boot. Okay, since everybody else is fessing up, my name is Lee and I have an off-color sense of humor. I like all of the Badweb threads and would hate to see it turn into a single subject forum. I know some have taken offense from my posts in the past, but that was without my permission so it hardly counts. For the record, there isn't anything anyone could post or email that would offend me in the least. I have the type of personality that has to be offended in person.  | ||

This is definitely one of the best-moderated boards that I read, (and I read a lot; it gets extremely boring here). I don't see any problems with how anything has ever been handled, whether by Blake and the other mods or by the general populace. One person like this, who has posted 12 times in a little less than 2 years, is not representative of the type of person who uses BadWeb, and their presence will not be missed. And, if you do a search on his username, and look at all of his posts, you'll see that on 21JUL04, he said "mein fuhrer blake - thanks for the warning, i won't be coming back." This statement was in response to a reprimand from Blake about posting un-substantiated political drivel. Too bad he lied back then... | ||

I never even read past the first post of the thread. It was of no interest to me so I didn't waste my time. sensible yesno? If you're going to play in the playground & you want to dish it out, you have to be able to take it too, like a grown-up. We've all seen some wonderful rows go off on here, The Rocket & Blake Show was sparky for a while but we all got over it & cooler heads prevailed in the end. I never dished anything out to begin with, just stated that Buellinmke's original posting was inappropriate. That doesn't warrant him hijacking my mailbox with hate letters. If I start a fight, I know full well that I better be able to handle my business. But that's not what this was. Whoa, fellers -- this thing has grown legs and is truly in danger of becoming one of those never-ending threads -- all present (again, on this thread) have posted their views calmly, and in a gentlemanly-like manner -- very well done why not let it go at this point, and move on to discussing contact patches, whether the bike hangs form the wheel spokes (tension), stands on em (compression), which oil filter will immediately void your warranty, and the advisability of chopping my MaDuece? as Blake said, peace |
