OK.... I'm getting ready to take the plunge. I'm one of those old fashoned people who has always done business with brick and morters. Well, there are just too many nice bikes out there.... just not in my area. So I do what any intelligent person does.... I hop on the net to check rates for shipping.

And heres the problem.... I know there are a lot of companies out there who do it.... but they seem unwilling to give simple rate quotes. I put my contact information in... and got five calls right away. All wanted to set up dates, and addresses to pick up and drop off... and I haven't even bought a bike yet. As far as quotes... they were all somewhat evasive... one guy said "um.... between $360 to $710 dollars"

Who have you used... and had success with in the past? What kind of rates am I looking at to go across country? (I'm in Carson City, Nevada)

As always.... thanks in advance!

Um.... looking to buy in Feb.... and as much fun as it would be, um.... would probally freeze my a$$ off thru the rockies... not to mention talking my boss into the time off.... RIGHT!

Don't get me wrong.... west of the rockies, I'm riding it home.... but there are a couple bikes on the east coast I'm looking at.... and tickets aren't much cheaper then the rough quotes I've gotten for shipping. Add in hotel, gas, time off.... will be cheaper (if alot less fun) to ship. I think....

When I bought my X1, I shipped it from AZ to Virginia Beach. I used Silva Transport. I think the guy only ships bikes, as, thats all he had in teh truck(well, 55ft trailer). I paid, 440, from AZ to VA, and it ws door to door service.

He had a slight delay(trailer brake issues), and of which he tried to give me 100 bucks off the shipping. I passed, because, he stayed in constant contact with me, giving me updates...

Personally, I would reccomend them, and use them aagin, if I bought another bike that had to be shipped...

http://www.silvaautotransport.com/

I am not sure if that is the link or not, I was trying to find one of the old emails from teh qoute..

So...

Hope that helps

Chase

Halbard, get the seller to meet you halfway, or find a Bueller as a go-between. Or find some nut to ride it for you if you pay the airfare. I'm up for S3s or other touring bikes provided I can add a pigtail for heated gear. ;)

Good idea.... I'll look for something like that when I go to buy.... for now though, I wanted to find some "worst case" dollar figures.... With the wife in college, $'s are tight right now. If I know the worst case scenerio, then I can always work up from there! If I can work it in for $4500 I'm in good shape....
