I've met Nagin... what you see is what you get... a big idiot. It's ironic that on MLK day (equality for all, blah blah blah) that he makes a statement like that. I have to wonder if today's black americans truely understand the sacrifices that Dr. King and others made for them. A few years ago, our security guard told us proudly that he was not working on MLK day, because it was "my man's day...". I wish he where still alive to slap the likes of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farakan and Mayor Nagin silly!

It's okay to have Miss Black America, the United Negro College Fund and such. But how dare anyone have Miss White America and the United Caucasion College Fund! We have tried to erase racism because it was wrong. However these are examples of the same thing.

If black america wants equality and greater opportunity from EVERYONE else, then get rid of the "you owe me" attitude and the "chocolate city" references.

Don't hate me for telling it like it is. The difference between people like myself and politicians is that we tell ugly truth and they just tell people what they want to hear.

The guy even backed out of being on Anderson Cooper's show at the last minute.. Anderson sent a reporter to go talk to him and he was chillin at a resturant.. lol.. too busy even to explain himself...

I guess its the norm in American politics now to just ignore journalists when confronted.. or pander to your own media controlled outlet...

"How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about,"

Well, he's obviously pandering to the chocolate vote..., or to the dairy industry? I like this analogy, though - who's gonna badmouth chocolate milk?

Saw the video of his speech. The crowd seemed mostly stunned with the noise of one or two polite clappers in the background. How is this guy still Mayor? He's said he doesn't want New Orleans "overrun by Mexican workers" and now whites aren't welcome either? Saw some interviews of white students at the newly reopened Tulane. They were not happy with his comments. Would someone find a rail and run his ass out of town already?

You wont see me in New Orleans or Mardi Gras till he's gone.

Nagin and 'former' mayor of D.C. Marion Barry could be related...they both both appear to have 'cracked' brain syndrome!! Both have the unnatural ability to stick foot in mouth and chew vigorously!!

I'm waiting for a pronouncement about the new 'Vanilla' city or the next 'Fruit' city

...no wonder there is so much skepticism about elected representatives.

you guys need to understand that the media cut out most of what he said.

"How do you make chocolate? You take dark chocolate, you mix it with white milk, and it becomes a delicious drink. That is the chocolate I am talking about,"

IMO just a stupid comment. It would have been racist IF he only had said chocolate and note white milk.

Geez... Did somebody open up a KKK chapter here?

Nagin has already apologized for his remarks. The Bush administration officials who expressed a preference for a white majority in a rebuilt New Orleans have not.

I don't think the guy is particularly racist, he just seems to be a few bricks short of a load.

Did any of you follow his post-Katrina comments? When the press was publishing rumors as fact regarding conditions in the dome (rape gangs, people starving, etc.) Nagin evidently went on TV and said he had personally witnessed some of these atrocities. When it was later pointed out to him that these things had never happened and that he hadn't even been there when they were alleged to have happened, he said something to the effect of "Well, I guess I just got caught up in the moment."

Sheez....

If you don't think he is racist, then you did not hear the speech. He did not simply say "chocolate", he went on further to say specifically "African-American" majority. His later back-peddling, trying to say that chocolate is a mix of dark chocolate (blacks) and milk (whites) holds absolutely no water at all.

Politicians of any color these days just suck.

Too bad they are only worried about re-election and not about doing their jobs.

I would think Hershey's located in Hershey, PA might take some offense to Mr. Nagin and his comment about chocolate city. Now that is a chocolate city.... Hershey's

Okay if they don't take offense then they should take is as competition.

"Chocolate City" is actually located only about 20 minutes (or less) from the Buell factory.

While I don't like racists, I am not sure Nagin's comments were really anti-white, just a poorly thought out invitation to all the poor blacks who have left.

I am sick and tired of people not being free to speak their mind. Everybody is compelled to apolgize by the lying media, who behind closed doors have all sorts of vile opinions and speech.

I can't find a complete transcript of the speech yet (someone?),
but you can find excerpts from it here - http://www.chriscam.com/

"It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild New Orleans _ the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans,...This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans."

His thoughts and speech were clear. Messed up, but clear, and anti-unity.

clear, anti-unity, and his opinion

interesting opinion, one with which I may disagree, but he's free to have it and speak it none-the-less

like my grandpa always said, we have the government we deserve

They can't figure out why they don't get ALL the good jobs anymore. They are not happy to get most of them. I'd love to do the "Black Like Me" thing to one of them. See what they would think if they had to put up with the c r a p that people of color deal with every day.

I wish Mayor Nagins could've seen Mogadishu in October of '93. His view on cities would be quite different.

You can't legislate stupidity and ignorance.

Mayor Nagins vision is short. How about the giant tidal wave that hit India, Sri Lanka last year? We supported a missionary to go over, he reported back with photos of the place.... everything was wiped out.

I think he said EXACTLY what he meant to say.... what pisses me off is the half assed back peddling excuses he made to the press afterward.

I'd rather know where someone stands, even if I disagree with them, then have them continually try to B.S. me at every turn....

He's proved himself to be just as racist as any KKK member... just because his skin is a different color, dosen't render him immune to being a racist.... he's just immune from being called a racist.
