I am considering buying the VR2 digital instrument panel and data-logger, and am concerned if by installing it I will void the electrical system warranty...
The reasons for this concern are based in the fact that one needs to tap into ignition coil input...

to get the tach to function.

Avoid using that connector at all costs.
It would be more of a pain but I suggest making an adapter so that your wiring harness won't be cut.
I hate those gillotine crimp-on things.

Indeed I was thinking more along the lines of this...

Although thats assuming that the coils don't use the juicy square plugs with multiple wires...
If my assumption is correct, where can I find the little cylindrical "arrow" connectors?

Any time you modify an OEM component with an aftermarket component, you are probably voiding the warranty on that component or any component that is directly connected to the first component. Now, wiring modifications will not affect any warranty on your forks, but if the wiring ties into the engine or engine management system, and you have engine problems, it may not be covered. Be careful, and at all costs, DO NOT USE THAT CONNECTOR! If you are tying into any wire, always use solder, heat shrink your connection to keep out moisture and other conductors, essentially do it the right way. : )

Or follow the wire to the coil and attach it there. No tapping in,just one wire end connector.

Ah, that would make life a lot easier...
now before I start dismembering things (out of curiosities sake and to "assess the situation"), the coils are located underneath the airbox correct?
By the way does anyone by any chance have the wiring diagram for the 2004 XB12R on hand and would be willing to email it to me?
While I am at it, might as well figure out how to make this thing turn on with the bike.
thanks
also...
I finally figured out what the "arrow" plugs are called, bullet connectors. Atop of that they are readily avaliable and cheap.

Coils are under the airbox on the left side. For wiring diagrams (and all other info on your bike) you should invest in a Factory Service Manual & Parts Catalog. DaveS and I offer 10% off to BadWeb members. We have all the XB manuals except for 2004 I think, and the parts catalogs need to be ordered.
