To be fair... Joe, I would like to think I would have responded less viciously, maybe something like...

"Sorry Tramp if you got the wrong idea from my post; I didn't mean to criticize you personally; I'm hesitant to walk on frozen bodies of water, so in my mind that ice looks thin, though in truth I cannot really tell from the pic." : )

I guarandamntee you, you wouldn't catch me on the ice Tramp is on

Yes Blake, you are right, I should have just said, you won't catch me on ANY ice, no matter how thick it is. I did post viciously, a person can only be called a liar too many times before it gets to them. EVERY person is a liar, I have never met anybody who hasn't EVER lied.

I didn't say I can tell by a photo when ice isn't thick and you are going to die if you go on it. I GAVE YOU A 5 STAR ON YOUR PHOTO BECAUSE YOU LOOK GOOD IN THAT PICTURE. I also emailed Tramp, but he won't email me back, because he can't turn my words around to use it against me in an email. Because I, myself, wouldn't get on the ice doesn't make me patently dishonest or deluded with a false sense of divination it just makes me a scared little girl to get on ANY ice. Glitch, you are a man of your convictions, and I appreciate that, I will gladly accept any admonition at any time, you too Blake. I am not going anywhere, and I am, not going to avoid any thread that Tramp is on, no matter WHAT words he tries to turn around of mine. Blake, I LOVE the site keep it up, and thank you for letting me play on yours. Tramp, still love you, good job at getting another rise outta me cool see you on the boards.

Anyone from the Minneapolis area? I remember crossing the St Croix about 10 years ago and seeing all the sheds (which were drug out onto the river), snowmobiles, and even a few cars parked on the river during the coldest part of the year. I have no idea what kind of fish are there, but it must be dang good eats for all the folks that were out there.

I'm not from Minneapolis, but that sounds about right.

Lake Winnipesaukee, here in NH, freezes over completely. If you drive by Alton Bay on a weekend in February, you'll see about 50 bob houses, and a variety of cars, trucks, sleds, an RV or two, and about 10 planes. The ice is usually over a couple feet thick.

People just hang out and fish, skate, race sleds, etc.. It becomes the center of town for a couple of months out of the year.

I miss ice fishing. Actually I miss hanging out in the ice fishing hut, listening to Black Sabbath and getting high with my buddies. Some times we even drilled holes in the ice. But I think that was for the beer...It's all a little blurry.

Hey is that icehole fishing?

No, he's just standing there for the good of his health.

(quick drum roll, leaves stage to a shower of fruit)

Just funnin' don't start saying I'm fishingist, my best friend's a fisherman.

I'll even admit to fly fishing now & again.
It's not a crime is it?... oh well if you're going to bring up those lost trout again, it wasn't my fault, how was I to know they'd jump on the hook like that, & anyway the "Private No Fishing" sign had mysteriously fallen over, I mean, if I'd known I never woulda, honestly!

Here is a fish,

Not sure where this pic came from.

Fish

As for fishing around here, still not enough ice on the ponds, this past weekend two guys on snowmobiles drowned when their machines went through.

For some strange reason we have been having an unusually mild winter.

newf-
you bring up an interesting dynamic.
how much does a snowmobile weigh?
...and do snowmobilers take it slow and watch for cracking when they ride, or do they speed across the ice with little regard to thickness?
and, when they stop, what do you suppose happens?
what does snowmobiling have to do with icefishing?
that's the beauty of it.
many of the rednecks here ONLY go out on snowmobiles and/or 4-wheelers (gotta maintain their fat a*ses) to fish, so weather like this keeps them off so us dedicated fishermen have the ice to ourselves with some peace and quiet.
I've been known to print out BS "DANGER: THIN ICE - KEEP OFF" flyers and put them up along the trees the night before....keeps the jersey guys off my favourite spots.
they can stay on Greenwood lake (9-mile long border lake) and pull out Enormous muskies anyway....

Well here people use their snowmobiles to get to the ponds where the real good sized mud trout are.
