you SAW them play?
Dang!
It is an amazing document, "Forever Changes".
Bonus tracks, eh? I may have to look into that CD.
Seems like Arthur got the lead guitarist and a bunch of younger folk to go out and tour with him, then he backed out of the tour, this past year.
I guess he's had decades of psychological issues, he's sort of like America's own Syd Barret, or maybe more of a mulatto Brian Wilson without the manger/shrink.
Crazy what these brilliant minds of psychedelia succumb to in their declining years.
Except, of course, for the Lizard King himself, who's raised two sons and a daughter in Marin County under an assumed name.
Bright, clean-cut guy who looks nothing close to his age.....
mr. mojo risin, indeed.

Scott I agree, Ghost Reveries is phenomenal. If you don't mind Opeth's mellow stuff, I would recommend the "Lamentations" DVD. That is, if you don't already have it.

Steve, got it and love it.

I can't believe that they are still getting better, after so may albums. I'd rate Ghost the best work I've hear in many years, from anyone.

In case you didn't know, they are currently adding dates for a US tour, a follow up. I saw them on the Deliverance/Damnation and it was great.

The Arcade Fires - Rebellion (lies) is another one that is fairly new and worth a listen.

Scott, I'm going to catch them in RI at the end of next month. They're playing with Dark Tranquillity and Devin Townsend. That should be a solid show. Devin's new album is supposed to be amazing too.

Steve,

I have one Dark Tranquility CD and it is great. Have a great time at the show. I hear Lopez (Opeth drummer) has some blood disorder and missed some of the last tour. I just thought he looked like a heroin addict in pictures, but I guess he has real health problems. I'd be surprised if Akerfeldt put up with a real junkie in the band anyway. I hope Lopez is on this tour, but I heard the substitute drummer did fine.

Although it was released in late 2004, The Arcade Fire's "Funeral" played in heavy rotation for all of 2005. It kind of made me have faith that there is still good music left to be discovered.

My favorite 2005 releases:

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! = great indie release

The Mars Volta "Frances the Mute" = Yes there still is good progressive music

Wilco "Kicking Television - Live in Chicago" = probably my current favorite band

Aimee Mann "The Forgotten Arm" = I could listen to Aimee sing the Phone book.

Spatten1, i always crack up at your pic with Ozzy... you may know my good friends band Killswitch Engage. they've been on Ozzfest a few times now and have been really gaining steam out there. tons of world tours at this point. Been buddies with the bassist, Mike D, for like over 13 years now. been workin his ass off for so long, killer to see the progress from the early days of Overcast, etc. anyway, if you dig metal, check 'em out!

Typeone, Killswitch is a very good band. I've seen 'em a couple of times and have one of their albums. I do like their fast parts better than the nu-metal softer sections. They can really rip on the harder stuff. I'm happy for your buddy that they are getting some traction after all that hard work.
It's funny, I like classical, jazz, rock of all types, but the newer bands that really get me excited tend to be mostly metal.

How about the best album you bought in 2005?

If so, then my vote goes for Bad Religion-The Empire Strikes First

Almost forgot......Biohazard-Means To An End

Here is my 2 cents.

I just discovered this band even though they have been around since the seventies.

C*ck Sparrer: SHOCK TROOPS 1982 ( I just can't quit listening to this CD)

Then I saw this band play here at Jugheads (Phoenix, Az) and they just blew me away. This CD kicks a**.

The Deep Eynde: Shadowland
