I've spent the last hour looking in the "knowledge vault". I simply want to know if I can bring 96 S1's power up to 98 S1W level by adding thunderstorm heads alone or would it require more stuff? Thnx

I beleive T-Storm heads and pistons would be required.

Cams too I believe.

You'd also need to consider the use of (for example) Race Kit Header and Muffler and Race Kit Air Filter and Race Kit Module or similar items, and a jet kit in the carb if you're using the stock carb, to reap the real benefit of Thunder Storming.

Not cams. They would be the same. But 2 1/2" collector on header, I think. And heads and pistons, of course.

Sorry about the cams. I thought they changed from S1 to TS.

The 2 1/2 inch header that came stock, that isn't the same as the Race Kit header is it? The Race Kit one is longer to reach the shorter length Race Kit muffler?

All S1, S1W, and S3 Buells used the same cams. The M2 used milder cams (even after moving to T-Storm heads). The 98 S3 and S1W used the same setup. The difference between a standard S1 (96,97,98) and the 98 S1W were heads, matching pistons, and a 2 1/2 collector. If you want more power than a stock S1W go with Rocket's suggestion (race kit or similar modifications to exhaust, intake, and ignition). I have a 96 S1 myself and with a Borla exhaust and Yost I can match a stock S1W (based on experience), but a race kitted S1W will walk away at the upper rpm range.
