"I never thought the term "Jap" was a racial slur." I find it difficult to believe that a 43 year old man didn't realize this, but if you didn't..., well, I guess you didn't. |

like the "n" word? go visit the frontline of any hot spot where the US is involved, and you'll see all the n*#^&@#s you like, fighting and dying alongside their brothers for us comfy folks back here at home. if ya don't have the sack to call mike tyson a n&$#*%r to his face, don't use the word here where you're safe from him. |

haven't seen 'honkey' used on this board, 'mick' is simply an abbreviation of McWhatever or MacWhatever, frog and polack aren't too derisive, and I've been counseled regarding my use of 'kraut' here, as well. those tend to be a bit more innocent than the 'n' word because they aren't as immediately identifiable, and they can be strictly nationalistic according to useage. they can be equally ethnic as well, however. problem is, they don't pit one identifiable 'colour' against another, as do es the 'n' word. harder to tell, by looking at someone, if they're a mick or a polack, so those aren't terms of as thoughtless of snap-judgement. |

My little girl when she was about 3 years old would get so mad at her older brother that she would yell at him " Mikael, you Indian" We finally figured out when she got older that she was really saying "you, idiot!". Sorry if any Indians whether feather or dot type were offended. |

Brucelee, you missed quite a few, probably cos your head's too far up your arse, GET A LIFE, lighten up & be tolerant, the French don't all hate Americans, & it's easy to take the piis when your country has never been occupied. You'll never like any French people because you believe the hype. Your loss. I'm not going to get into a big political discussion with you on this because I can't be arsed, I've better things to do with my time. Just PLEASE try & think of others & be a little tolerant, not everybody has your advantages. |

kinda easy to tell who's travelled outside of Conus and who hasn't friends (both individuals and nations) should be able to disagree without resorting to Junior High School antics, IMO -- but hey, I'm used to being the minority ;-} |

Also I am a white guy, hence the Honkey part. "I am not going to get into a big political discussion with you on this because I can't be arsed, I've better things to do with my time." Obviously not, as you already made this post! "Just PLEASE try & think of others & be a little tolerant, not everybody has your advantages." You know nothing of me, nor of my so-called advantages. This is arrogance on your part,no? And you have no sense of humor. If one can laugh at oneself, one can rest easy! |

Please cease the personal commentary. If you want to criticize someone, start a topic just for that. Good grief. Thank you Jon for looking out for the place and for removing that horrible post. The time zone difference definitely has its advantages. |

I spent my early childhood in France growing up in the city of Fountainbleu. I have very fond memories of the years I spent there. I don't ever remember being mistreated by my French friends because I was an American, but I was just a kid. I guess you have to grow up and learn to be rude and intolerant. |

when i'm in france, few are rude to me. old people remember the second world war and seem to have an affinity for yanks. nobody makes fun of my bad french, most appreciate the fact that i attempt to converse in french and expect none to use english when i'm in their house. their culture is different, plain and simple. 'different' invokes paranoia. you'll find a*sholes everywhere, and good people, as well. when you're in someone else's country, try to speak the language. if you don't try, you have no right expecting them to speak yours. france just happens to be a country that non-french speakers flock to and demand, in english or german, answers and info from the natives. get outta dodge, listen to a berlitz tape on the language for a few days/weeks before you go, as well as on the flight, and you can expect a warm, wonderful and enriching experience anywhere you go. That being said, however, I'm still the "shoot first, ask later" american who knocked german guys on their asses for calling my wife a "tscaikisch schwein" while walking over her skis with theirs. no matter where you go, there you are. |

there is a deep seated fear of the "other" displayed by a buncha folks on the board -- sad, but, then, it's mostly their loss |

along this thought, try catching up with organizations abroad who share your interests. I've felt like an outsider on european streets, then felt like i was in the warmest place in the world when partying at european m/c clubhouses. Met many fellow buellers and many nice ladies through foreign m/c clubhouses. This is one of the reasons i used to try to promote the idea of an international buell club. with common interests, many doors open. |

I guess if a japanese person never told me it was offensive, I never knew. The couple that I know told me today it doesn't bother them , but it does many of their country men, especially transplanted japanese or americans with japanese heritage. As far as the "N" word, I have never used it or care for anybody who does, the video link I posted is a joke about racism by Dave Chapppel who is black himself. I also don't call latinos anything but latinos, jewish any thing but jewish or any other group of people by any other name other than they one they wish to be referred by. |

I have used the term "jap bike". Never meant it in a bad way. But I am a lazy typer, Jap is a lot quicker to type than Japanese. However in the light of it bothering people I will find something else to refer to Japanese motorcycles. I still think the original joke is funny though. |

My wife's Polish Uncle calls our children "Portabillies" for Puerto Rican Hill Billies. Even the children think it's funny. I hated to tell him that eastern North Carolina is flat. I took a trip to Europe that started in England, then went to France, Scotland, Norway, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium. Love the culture and the people. I found that in many ways I like what Europeans like. I like the way their cars are set up with stiff suspensions and stick shifts. I like their motorcycles, BMW, Triumphs, Aprillias, Ducatis. I like their food, except Haggis, and beer (It blew me away that I like Norwegian Beer over Germany beer.) Also it seems that Europeans like Buells more than Americans. See, again I like what Europeans like. Only a few corrections, use an American V8 and a tip to the English, Beer and Tea is meant to be drank ice cold (I love the Fish and Chips from there). |
