didn't mean to make anyone look brain-damaged, I deleted my post because upon second reading, it appeared i was bringing up issues that don't need airplay, here.
bear in mind,
EVERYONE who's posted here, me included, likes the shirt very much.
there's just some wild misinformation regarding trademark infringement posted here. trust me, cochise, your info regarding trademarking is incorrect.
and, for the record, I DID offer up a design for a badweb shirt here about 2 months ago, in precisely the same manner.
some folks possess the ability to admit when they're wrong,
some do not.

So, just to clarify things, it's been my understanding that I can, on my own, for my own use, not intended for distribution, make anything I want. I can photograph a Buell(tm) logo, silkscreen it onto a t-shirt, and wear it in public if I want to. Is this true?

And, yeah, if anyone wants to comment on the whole tattoo image copyright infringement issue as well then that would also add some clarification to the confusion.

Nice shirt way above, by the way. Somebody knows how to work fabric and thread.

(I think I'll go out to the garage now and contemplate painting a Campbell's tomato soup can image onto the fender of the S2.)

SOme of YOU here feel compelled to hijack a thread and spin it as a means to push your own agenda. If ya wanna start a thread to debate your own agenda go do it. Lighten up you guys.

let it go.
nobody called anyone a liar.
let's go ahead and delete these posts
and keep this thread true to it's intent, which was, of course, how cool stou's shirt is, which yoiu and I certainly agree upon.
you wanna start another thread to discuss other matters, fine.
some deleting would be a nice touch, we're both better than this..

Your right Jay, I shouldn't have lashed out at the WRONG Dave in the first place, oh wait that was you. I tried to email you LAST night to continue this, so why didn't you continue on email? Oh yeah, then nobody would see how smart you are.

Oh yeah, this will be my last post on this thread. You know my email and phone number. Jay, you ignorant slut. I know, it sounds personal but it was a phrase from Saturday Night Live, except I exchanged Jane with Jay : D

WAAAY back, just a few years after the dawn of time, H-D dealers used to GIVE away t-shirts with their logo or dealer name on the back. At least where I grew up, they did. Especially if you spent some cash on parts or accessories there. I guess they figured it was part of their ad budget. Now the shirts are starting at twenty eight bucks, and go up from there.
Cool shirt, Stou!
Just don't try to make a bunch and sell them! You'll end up in court, with Tramp, Cochise, and Dave named as 'interested parties'. Could be a good excuse for all to get together and go ridin'! (now THAT would be an 'interesting party!')
You're a lucky man, having a wife that can sew like that! If I lose a button, I gotta throw the shirt away! Mine can cook and bake, though!

A homemade gift is always special. But some of you have pointed out that we may not even be having this discussion if the dealers offered Buell logo apparel. I've searched at many dealers and have little to show for it. I think the theory at HD dealers is that HD is where the money is. OF course, they wouldn't know how much money a Bueller will spend since they have nothing we'd buy. I've gotten more of my Buell stuff from Buell directly than from the dealerships.

Must be cold out where ya'll are.
Ya'll can stop arguing now.
No infringement as made.
I can paint my truck with a big Buell logo and no one can do anything about it, I did it to my truck. Now if I tried to sell trucks with Buell logos, that'd be a different story...
Nice sweat shirt.

Some of the things cited here are accurate, many are not.

Intellecual property laws are defined by what the laws say, augmented by case law, now what we "think" they say.

Someone said "There are some funny things with name usages." The "do's and don't" regarding the BUELL name are all defined, in great detail, in the booklet about style and usage. It goes into infinite detail about the Patone number of the blue, what colors can be displayed together and what is and is not acceptable.

The word "sued" was mentioned earlier. You are unlikely to get sued. One of the things I, as a construction worker, do is to monitor a certain online sales venue and maintain a dialouge with some JD folks (who should but don't have the time to as issues with a larger company consume them) alerting them when certain violations rise beyond "de minimis".

Funny thing is that Buell has produced some really lame shirts the last couple years and the best Buell shirt to come down the pike was the awesome XB9X shirt done by a nice kid named Ryan in LA. I, for the good of the brand, bought up his inventory before his Cease and Desist arrived.

In most cases a simple letter does the trick, sometimes coupled with cutting off the sales and distribution network.

The best one, I had the chance to review the other day while writing on Chapter 9 of the Buell book, was the company named "Buell Motorcycle Company of America" that was formed in the UK. Yeah!. . . we've not talking gray market service manual CD's, it was the entire damned motorcycle.

The sweatshirt your wife made you is very nice. Thank her, give her a big ol' kiss and a hug and rest easy that you'll get no registered mail.

I'll bet his wife could embroider a very nice detail of that horse beater clipart there. Put it on the left front of the shirt and wear it to the next Homecoming.
