I need some imaginative assistance. I put together a "Top Ten" list of reasons to ride up to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, but some of them seem a bit on the bland side. Those BadWeb'rs that are in urban areas near mountains ought to be able to help me come up with some more that are "adaptable" to our region.

Top Ten Reasons

Some friends of mine and I are going to VIR for the AMA race in 06. Please send as many routes as possible because we will be in the area for a few days.

Thanks

It might bear riding to this place and starting from there. It could, you see, be a matter of perspective.

Yeah Court that would be an great place to start from. My vote would be Rt. 39, a.k.a. Maury River rd. through Goshen Pass and beyond westward even. They resurfaced the road in the last 2 years. It's on the otherside of Lexington headed west.

Rt. 501 from Buena Vista to Lynchburg is supposed to be good to ride, but friends tell me to watch for cops on the Lynchburg side of the mountain. When I was on it in my cage I did notice some gravel in the turns.

I know Rt. 60 was good this year from the Blue Ridge Parkway to Rt. 29. It looks to be good from the Parkway west but I was using the Parkway as my return loop on my trip to Lynchburg that day and haven't been back.

Also if you ride the Blue Ridge Parkway use caution on parts of the road that don't get a lot of light, behind large rocks and cliffs and the like. The road tends to grow some very slick moss!!
