"Well once the wall is complete all you need then is to get the troops back from IRAQ, put them on the top and shoot anything that tried to get over. "

Excellent idea. Wonder if they will let civilians in on the action?

Then who's gonna serve your burgers, pizzas, cut your grass, build your house, salt your parking lot, clean your gutters, put up a deck, etc. Your kids, I highly doubt it, though I wish it would happen. Most kids nowdays drive nicer cars than I do and I'm 32 and they don't have jobs, but yet we complain about illegal immigration, and pay these folks who are willing to work for it, once again I think were looking under the wrong rocks...

Good fences make good neighbors.

I sometimes think that the U.S would be better off if we withdrew all our military forces back to this country. Then we could use them for policing our borders, and patrolling our territorial waters. If anyone wants to come here and screw with us or our rules and regulations, we'll take em on.

Our good relations with our neighbors to the North are a result of neither of us having badly abused the hospitality of the other. We don't always agree on everything. But it is okay if we don't agree on everything.

The the beer is better to the North. With the possible exception of Negra Modelo. But the food is better to the South. Except for seafood and soups and heavy duty stews.

Now I'm confused. Ahhh, forget it...

This is the typical argument but simplistic best. This kind of economic issue, IF REAL, can be solved in many LEGAL ways.

What you are suggesting is that it is OK to sanction criminal conduct IF it keeps the price of a burger down.

Using that logic .......well, you get the point.

Here just a waste of money and ammo to shoot illegal immigrants. As long as northern mexico is effectively a third world country they will come here for jobs and to take advantage of the fact that it is nicer to be poor here than middle class where they are coming from.

Not saying that we should keep the price of a burger down, or use illegal immigrants to make those burgers, but when fewer in this country are willing to do the work, either because they don't want to or don't have to there will always be a demand for immigrants to fill those positions, regardless of what wage they will accept. Some take the criminal route, which is a double edged sword while others are willing to do "lesser" work earning a decent wage and take care of thier family. On another post people are willing to work in Saudi Arabia for 23/hr. or better, what is the difference? As long as there is work, people will continue to come across the borders for hope of a better life for themselves or others. The problem comes in when they don't pay into the system that they are taking from, and no literal fence will stop that, needs to occur at the employment level...which may never happen...

If the US were serious about having a sane immigration policy and system, I believe that illegal immigration could be ground to a halt.

However, the real roadblock is the politicians, who will never solved this until forced to.

Why? Because most pols simply take a reading of the political winds and then do or not do.

So, if the local hack in Congress is influenced by the Mexican American vote or what he THINKS that is, he will refrain from doing something about illegal immigration.

Of course, legal immigration is the other side of the hand and that has to be dealt with also. Put another way, if legal immigration levels are higher, and illegal immigration levels are lower, everybody wins.

The woman who cleans my house is from Mexico. She waited 5 yrs to immigrate here legally. She has a thriving business, employees LEGAL mexican immigrants, pays taxes, has her own health insurance. She is applying to become a citizen.

What IS the problem?

that's my point when done through normal legal channels it works as it's supposed to, and I'm glad to see it, there is no problem. but when an immigrant is pulling from a system for which he/she is not buying/paying into, how can that system survive.

All illegal immigration would come to a standstill if the government started putting the people that employed them in jail.

Illegal immigration must be stopped. All of the supposed and apparent consequences of that act will just have to be dealt with and we will live with the changes.

If cooking my own burgers (pssst, mine are better) is my part of lifting the load, bring it. And bring me some ground beef...not too lean mind you!

If the basis of your complaint of Bush is that he interrupted your cartoon or other TV show, then I'm not gonna worry about changing your mind.

All good points guys. It is amazing to me that the libs here in CA justify illegal immigration and seek to protect it at every juncture.

According to them, all illegals are just good folks. We should extend them drivers licenses, SS cards, welfare, free medical care, free college tuition, free housing, etc etc.

It is insane to be in the middle of that mindset.

Newfie-
I'm not sure of the gist of your post but from the history that I remember is the Berlin wall was to keep the East Germans IN! We are a little more concerned about keeping illegals out.
The only Canadians that I know of coming to the U.S. are doctors who have met their allowed pay and take the rest of the year off in Arizona & Florida.

Always remember, who would be here if we had all of our borders closed for the duration from the 13 colonies to present day. "Give us your poor,..." This is what makes America what it is. Say ten dogs come in to my neighbor hood and kill a baby apiece, if another dog comes here, I'm gonna be watching that sumbeech, no matter how it acts. Let them in, but watch them like a hawk!!

Cochise, that system back then was fine. But now days our government has become a welfare system. When we import then :unskilled, sick, pregeant, criminal, gangs, etc etc. It is a burden on OUR system.

Which is why OUR medical care cost so much. Which is why many hospitals in the border states are closed down.

America Welcomes Illegals'
Contagious Diseases
By Dr. Madeleine Cosman, Ph.D., ESQ
NewsWithViews.com

Illegal aliens cross America's borders medically unexamined. We shrug. We do not know what Illegal Aliens carry in their backpacks. We do not know what they carry in their bodies.

Long ago we knew what legal immigrants brought with them. When my grandpa came to America, he kissed the ground of New York's Ellis Island, then he stripped naked and coughed hard. Every legal immigrant before 1924 was examined for infectious diseases upon arrival and tested for tuberculosis. Anyone infected was shipped back to the old country. That was powerful incentive for each newcomer to make heroic efforts to appear healthy.

Today, legal immigrants must demonstrate that they are free of communicable diseases and drug addiction to qualify for lawful permanent residency Green Cards.

But Illegal Aliens stop at no medical checkpoint. Whoever walks through our foolishly open Golden Door comes in healthy or sick. If a border patrol sentry catches a healthy Illegal Alien he might be sent back home immediately. However, if we catch and detain a sick Illegal Alien, who after examination by physicians in a detention center proves to have a serious disease, we keep him! Foolish compassion makes us fear that his home country has neither adequate medical resources nor modern wonder drugs. So we release sick Illegal Aliens to the American streets, to infect others if their diseases are contagious, or we place them in our Medicaid program where we pay for their expensive treatments.

Foolish medical generosity encourages clever Illegal Aliens to exploit free medical care that EMTALA, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, provides.[1] Foolish medical graciousness encourages cynical Illegal Aliens to take and take and take again.[2] Only a foolish guest will refuse what a foolish host offers. Our wide-open Golden Door guarantees that Illegal Aliens in their own self-interest will use and abuse our medical system. Our Golden Door also is propped open thanks to advocacy and legal aid of Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Foundation, National Immigration Law Center, Southern Poverty Law Center, and similar open border groups.[3] America is fast becoming Hospital to the World.

Horrendous diseases that long ago America had conquered are resurging. Horrific diseases common in Third World poverty and medical ignorance suddenly are appearing in American emergency rooms and medical offices. Along with the visible invasion of Illegal Aliens across our borders is an invisible invasion of deadly diseases.[4]

and all that aside, our extremely underguarded borders make it way too easy for terrorists to waltz in, esp. along our southern border.

"Always remember, who would be here if we had all of our borders closed for the duration from the 13 colonies to present day. "Give us your poor,..." This is what makes America what it is. "

This, of course, is off point. The phrase "close our borders" actually does not mean anything.

As has been clear, we are talking about illegal vs legal immigration. There is nothing implied or expressed in "building a wall or fence" that suggests that no one can come to the US LEGALLY, which is what my family did in the early 1900s.

With legal immigration, the US can rationally decide who we want to allow in and WHY! That allows us to NOT admit an AIDS carrying ex-felon with a murder rap sheet, and TO allow in, a ex-soviet physician with a research competence.

Which one do YOU want living next to you?

This beat having cheap labor to cut my lawn!

get your kids to cut your lawn, build a fence, build a patio, put up drywall, or make a cheeseburger, they may learn something, earn some money, and start a business. Gets them away from the TV, puts money in thier pocket, and takes some of the incentive away from illegals...

I actually have all the southern, lawnmowers, landscapers, chicken sexers, cooks, framers, bricklayers, carpenters, gutter hangers, etc. in my area, I get along with most of them fine, even some of the illegals, I don't mind, but still my human nature makes me watch them like a Hawk. I may be sounding naive, but I thought I WAS understanding what is being said. Aren't you folks saying not to let anybody back in here again, unless you were born here, Illegal or otherwise?

I'm legal like the military allows homosexuals. They gave me a Social Security number and allow me to pay taxes. After that the INS have a strict don't ask, don't tell policy. And I get to go to Winnipeg once every few years to renew my passport. I love this country.
