**Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, nonaddictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, and with respect for the religious persuasions of others or their choice not to practice a religion at all; a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2005, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to our society have helped make America great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes. (This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others.)** __________________ |

"enjoy the solstice and all it's peripheral holidays" ....actually, I just wish everyone a merry christmas. whether or not they actually observe christmas is of little concern to me. It still occurs on Dec. 25, regardless, and I wish merriment to all folks on that day. When people blow me sh*t for it, i remind them that Christ was born in The springtime 'when the apples were in blossom', and a very PC pope decided that it would be easier for the pagans to celebrate Christmas if it fell on one of their big 4 Holidays, so he chose the Winter solstice celebration, as there was little else going on in Europe that time of the year, and his week, according to his pocket planner, was wide-open. ......them zany popes |

Since my Christmas card go out to not just my Christian friends (most of them) but to several Jewish friends, some Moslems, a Hindu, several Athiests a couple Agnostics, some Native Americans and a few that believe in something but I haven't got a clue what, and since ALL of them celebrate some sort of major holiday this time of year it is just easier to for my cards to say HAPPY HOLIDAYS. Perhaps when I am retired I can go back to writing a personal note on each calling out whatever holiday it is they are celebrating. I mean no disrespect to Christianity but the winter solstice has been celebrated since way before Christ was born and is the time of year when many religons have significant holidays. Seems to not be a coincidence BTW. Don't see why I can't wish them all a nice holiday without beign accused of being anti-christian. |

Dave -- you and I are in the same boat -- the level of concern displayed in some Christian communities seems strange to me -- I've heard of no one attempting to keep any Christians form worshiping as they see fit -- since I've likely said enough to generate some hate mail already, I'll hush up btw, Mr Gess -- Happy Holidays! |

I personaly dont care what everyone's religion, race, or ethnisity is, just as long as for a few weeks out of the year everyone stops b*tching about everyone else and is happy for the winter holiday season. I dont mind Happy Holidays cause it covers all your bases but if someone slips and Sez something that might offend somebody just let it go cause its supose to be a Happy time of year. This wasn't intended to go after any one of the previous threads and if I did by axident......HAPPY HOLIDAYS... |

If I say Merry Christmas to someone, they need to understand I am trying to share something that means a lot to me. If someone wishes me a greeting from their holiday I am glad they wish to share something of theirs with me. The way I see it most of these holidays are for giving and recieving, asking for forgivness and giving forgivness. How in the great creators (or put in your own consept) creation can anyone be offended with that? Unless they are just looking for something to be offended by.

That's what i meant, before. * * * I live and grew up in new york, not far from the city. half my neighbors are Jews. I am honoured when they wish me Happy New Year (Rosh Hashanah), Yom Kippur, or Happy Chanukah, and they feel the same when I wish them Merry Christmas or Happy Easter. As kids, we all got a charge out of learning about the other tribe's holidays. I was baptised and Christened Catholic, then we transferred to our local Methodist Church (where my Mom went, originally), and I had weekly Baptist Bible Studies at the one "Colored Family"'s house in the Hamlet, and us gentile kids attended our buddies' bar mitzvahs, and we went over to their houses each of the 8 days of chanukah and played with their GI Joes, and they came over to our places on christmas morning and helped us test our new sleds, etc. I remember the very first time I had Lox and Bagels at Andy Abramowitz' house. I musta been like 5. If somebody from outta town ever used an antisemite slur, they'd get whomped by a bunch of kids- gentiles and jews. The jewish kids figured Jesus had to have been a pretty hip 'moshiach', and we gentile kids thought those Masada Jews who killed themselves, rather than surrender, were hardcore, and we all learned life lessons from each others' cultures. so....in MY neighborhood, we all greet each other according to our own holidays, and welcome others to share that warmth, regardless of faith. My three favourite neighbor families, within a few houses of me, are Israeli. I'm always proud to be included in their holiday greetings. The New Testament is the younger brother of the Torah, the way most of us around here see it, and none of my neighbors had a hand in what went down at Calvary. Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah |

The dates were shuttled around , as I'd mentioned, to coincide with existing pagan holidays. Were Christ around when all this shifting of dates was being done, I'm sure he would have had no problem with it. seems like he was pretty easygoing. |
