I searched for a thread concerning this, but I couldn't find anything specific. I am sure it is here...somewhere...but in my quest to deepen my knowledge of the Buell world, can someone give me some history of what the Pegasus means? thanks alot. |

I *think* this is the Buell Family Crest. or an old HD logo featured a pegasus... I've heard both stories, but don't know for sure. I'll try to remember to ask Erik next time I see him. |

hmmmm Once bridled and tamed, Bellerophon mounted Pegasus and they became as one, best friends in the world. like learning to ride a bike... Pegasus and Bellerophon galloped over land and sea faster than the wind. bigger engine in our future? While riding Pegasus, Bellerophon knew no bounds; he even went on to conquer Chimera, the dreaded three-headed beast, part lion, goat and serpent. ...and he conquers the 3%... |

Or the Italians, Germans and Japanese . I "think" the reference is the greek one . "Bellerophon, who slayed the hideous beast Chimaera, became so headstrong that he ordered Pegasus to fly him up to Mount Olympus, the home of the gods. This impudence angered Zeus, who sent an insect to sting the winged horse, who bucked Bellerophon off its back. Needless to say, Bellerophon did not survive the fall to Earth. Pegasus went on to greatness, however, as the "Thundering Horse of Jove" who carried lightning bolts for Zeus." Do NOT be headstrong while riding a Buell ... |

I have always liked the Buell Pegasus logo, the charging winged horse figure. It is a fine corporate logo, and I wish they would USE it more. It should be visible somewhere on every bike. I don't think its anywhere on my XB12... a shame really. |

tommy, there is a fine aluminum air box cover that prominently features the pegasus logo. I am thinking about getting one, that was the reason for my curiosity of the meaning... |

I agree with Tommy_2stroke the only Pegasus logo on my 12S is the one on the tail bag....there should be a nice big one on the points cover or at least one somewhere |

I always figured it had to do with Harleys being refered to as a "steel horse". A Buell is a steel horse that flies |

"...I have 3 of the alum airbox guards in stock with the Pegasus on them..." Dave, any idea how close the tank contours of an XB tank are to an S-1W Manta tank are? Yah think one of these guards would fit my bike? |

Just 'cause.. the moto on the crest seems to translate roughly into: To Advance Together. (actually, it's more like 'advance with union' but syntax between languages is always a little off) |

Glitch, You nailed it. It is indeed the family crest. When I read all the related tales of Bellerophon, Thunderbolts, and the way the image related to motorcycling...man it just was meant to be! And the family crest way pre-dates the Harley symbol, or the Mobil one as well! So, forward together to slay the three headed Chimaera! |

Yeah, Steve-O, that's what I mean! I have GOT to put that on my steed--- pray tell where did you find it? (Hmmm, there's a fine mythical creature brought to life in the last Potter movie... a hippogryff... a winged horse with the head of an eagle... magnificently animated BTW. Damn thing gave me goose bumps. And then at the end of the movie Harry gets his new broom, the fastest in the world... a Firebolt! Ha!) |

Was I under the influence of crack or something when (think) I read this or does Erik Buell in fact have a small statue of a Chimaera in his office? |

I found mine on Ebay. I think I paid around $40 including shipping. It was new in Buell packaging. It's obviously discontinued (bad move IMHO). There's one on Ebay right now (ends later today) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-BUELL-PEGASUS-TIMING-COVER-32511-01Y_W0QQcmdZ ViewItemQQcategoryZ35572QQitemZ4595873724QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW |
