Hello all. I'm heading to NYC this weekend to catch a concert in Times Square. I got the tix at the last minute so I'm in need of some travel advice. I'm driving in from Boston, and I'm looking for the best spot, outside of the city, to park, and pick up a bus/train into town. Any help would be appreciated.

Lowlife,
I would suggest catching the Metro North in New Haven. It's easy to park there, right off the highway and the tickets relatively inexpensive. The Metro North will bring you to Grand Central Station on 42nd Street. I will be a reasonable walk to Times Square from there. Have fun!

Harlem Line from Brewster North/Southeast (NY exit 19 off I84 I think) is easy...$3 to park, $26.50 peak hour fare takes about 1 1/4 hours to get to Grand Central

Try Newark airport area. If you stay at the Marriott airport you can take a train right in from there. Plus you'll save money.

Take 84 (Danbury, Ct.) West to 684 South to 287 West, to the last White Plains exit (I THINK it's exit 5), follow to the White Plains Train Station, just a few blocks after the exit.
There's non-permit pay parking there, it's on the Harlem Line right to Grand Central station, which
puts you just East of Times square.
Grand Cantral Station iteslef is a beautiful space to enter and behold in itself. Follow 42nd st. (on foot if you have 5 minutes) past the Public Library to times square, you can't miss it.
It's a safe walk (like most in NY) and Christmassy as anything.
Stop and BS with the NYPD, being that you're going into LE...they're among the nicest and coolest on the planet.
It's a really beautiful place to visit htis time of the year.
Great place to grab some Christmas presents as well. Esp. the street vendors.

Thanks for the info everyone! The thing is, I need to catch a train back out of the city around 1 or 2 A.M, because the show doesn't start until 10:00 p.m. Is this going to be possible? I have only spent the day in NYC on a few occasions. So, I'm really not familiar with the transit schedules and routes.

whoaaa! in the time I posted that, several others chimed in!
the mark of a great board.
the Jersey ideas would be good if you come down the mass. pike to the NYS Thruway, and the PATH trains are still crazy cheap and all, but from New England you might find the Westchester route (White Plains, etc.) to be cheaper. With gas prices the way they are, I like Luke and Brotherbuell's ideas, Brewster North or New Haven.
Personally, I prefer the Harlem line (Brewster North) but I catch it from White Plains...hadn't considered taking it from the top, so to speak.
being that you're catching a concert on a weekend, you're sure's heck not paying peak fare.
Incidentally, If you have time to spare and you're into that sorta thing, the New York Botanical Garden has it's own stop on the Harlem Line, and experts say that visiting a botanical garden on a snowy December weekend will make you grow a full 4" taller and have more stamina and increase your mojo by more than double!!!

No problem catching a weekend train outta grand central at that hour. You Should be able to google "Metro-North schedule Harlem Line (or New haven Line)" and pull up the present schedule.

THAT's a good question.
I haven't been around for many a winter,
my last one was spent at the local Angels' "New Roc's Eve" (just realized I'm wearing one of the T-shirts right now)...
I'd definitely be up for an independent sportbike run, though.
Otherwise, my own Keister is in Big sur, California at the grandparents' "ranch"

a man out sleighriding with his daughter on a snowy, Currier & Ives sunday, is "weird" to your neighbors....as opposed to what- a dad sitting around the bar watching the game on a sunday?
TP for the whole neighborhood, I say.
make sure you TP your own house, though, and leave your worst neighbor's house untouched
