Was wondering if anyone can tell me what makes inverted forks better than the standard type ones?

Gj:
can't right side up forks be stiffened?
the Cyclone has a brace, the tubes can be made heavier, the lower legs on USD forks are smaller and there for lighter

Yes, the conventional forks can be stiffened with braces, and the tubes made stiffer, but ultimately, the thing that gives the upside down forks their increased stiffness is the longer distance between the upper and lower bushings in the outer tube.

you gain and you lose. with the inverst on the S1, S2 and S3, the turning radius is horribly stunted, while the M2, with conventional crumb-catchers, has a nice, tight steering radius like a trail bike.
I'd love to get my mitts on some conventional forks for my S2, as I'd prefer them, with extra fork-bracing, to these inverts.

Tramp's right as rain -- I swapped my M2 Stock forks for the trees and forks from an early S3 -- the loss of turning radius (which wsa not aquite as tight as Tramp describes it {grin}) is even less wonderful now --

I didn't make the swap for rigidity nor for unsprung weight (I'm simply not good enough a ridser to ever notice -- well, no more than once or twice a year, anyways -- I'd submit that most riders are in the same boat, wether they are willing to admit it or not) -- I did the wswap to gain the range of adjustability -- compression and rebound damping, mainly -- much better forks, but you could like;ly realize the same gian through the installation of a Race Tech Cart emulator or some such
