Rossi Kart
...as those side-saddle wheelies and (ahem) late-braking manoeuvres

Almost all of the F-1 drivers have gotten their starts in Karts.

Can't help but notice that is a shifter and probably capable of speeds to more than 120 MPH.

We have a local kart track and a long time ago I got to ride in a friends KT100 Yamaha powered machine. It is an absolute kick in the pants! Have never driven a shifter kart but use to think about building one.

Another friend borrowed my helmet to take a test drive and flipped the kart in the first corner under too hard of braking. He dislocated his shoulder and a few scraps, but the worst part was he scratched my helmet - The Bum!

I have heard rumors certain teams would like him to try Formula One racing.

Could be they are seeing if has the potential to make the switch.

Hmmmm.

I thought it was just a rumor, but now I dunno.

Is that really him?
Sure is. At the end of November he beat ex-World Champ Colin McRae at a rally face-off in Pesaro and also competed in the kart race. Next date is Dec 10 to drive a group N Impreza in another 'friendly' tournament. And testing for Ferrari.

While he may not be to everyone's taste it galls me that the media have generally overlooked this memorable period of motorcycle racing. Every sport has it's champions but now it's 'our' turn to have a truly memorable individual, it's like whoosh let's talk about cricket instead. Next year will probably be Rossi's last on two wheels and then we'll be lumbered with another soporific post-Doohan period

12r -- the media (especially in the US) missed Kenny Roberts (SR), Mick, Chris Carr, and a host of other world-class atheletes

me, I think the AMA and Dourna (mis-spelled, no doubt) would be brilliant if they hired the NASCAR PR machine for a couple of years -- think about how much progress could be made!

Here, here Bomber! AMA racing PR is sadly lacking...also, the 'public' image of motorcycle racing has been shaped by the big drag bikes and exotic MotoGP leaving a huge gap where some of the best and most accessible racing occurs.

Oddly enough, the Illinois state tourism board 'borrowed' from the AMA last year...one of the states biggest slogans worked around the Illinois Mile---but never mentioned The Springfield Mile or the DuQuoin 'Magic Mile'.

Had the AMA PR machine been tuned up, it would have quickly capitalized on the tourism boards 'free' billboards and print media.

AMA cronyism?

It's looking like the Kart and SuperMotard venues may be starting to attract attention...if some 'major names' in racing were given the attention they have earned and the marketing execs 'decided' it was a worthy investment of capitol resources...

It's no rumour Rossi has been offered a deal with Ferrari. The problem is Rossi has to commit to a rigorous 6 month testing program before Ferrari or Rossi know which way to blow, but Ferrari want to test him next year. That might prove a problem for Rossi with his Yamaha schedule.

As for the media, it must be a US thing. Rossi is the biggest name and face since sliced bread, all over Europe. He's everywhere.

Yeah... It's a US thing. If it doesn't start with "NAS" it's not real racing as far as the media is concerned. Even the damn SPEED channel should be renamed to the NASCAR channel.

It's pathetic.

I would literally rather watch European Semi-truck racing than NASCAR.
