Sam said: quote: .... Nomad! OK fellas, we're about to play a little game of "where in the world is "Davie San Diego"? watch this space for a world tour. Got me a new fangled camera last night and the tickets just arrived on my desk. Departure is Saturday morning. |

The rules are: I give some hints as to where I've landed on this trip around most of the planet, and you guess the places. Winning entries receive a very special prize. A ride on Sam's wicked little XB-14RN. We'll add up the number of correct first responses at the end of the game. So far this Tripp guy has one. Obviously he never sleeps. (Don't let the name fool ya, he's not my brother and Iv'e never talked to him so don't be cryin foul yet.) Ready? Here's your first challenge... (Message edited by tripper on November 06, 2005) |

Well since some of you know where I live and many don't, to be fair I was going to give you the originating site. It appears that my photo clues are too obvious as we have our first winner about 32 seconds after I posted the first batch! Congratulations to Tripp who has guessed the origination. He must go through there alot. I arrive dutifully one hour before my flight and this is what met me as I approached the counter Saturday morning. Not a good sight, cause when the airlines computers go down it tends to lead to long check-in lines. 40 minutes later I reach the front of the line. My bag is 56 pounds. Your allowed 50 pounds. "Can you take anything out" she says. "Charge it up" I say. "Are you sure?" she says, explaining that she has to charge me $351 overweight charge. "American Express", I say, confident that I am about to win the first battle. Ten minutes later, phone calls to some distant manager, frustration, key strokes, "I cancelled the transaction. Run to gate 10" she says. "I don't do run, anymore" Off to the gate I go. Like I said, the airlines computers were down. There's a hint in this photo of the first interim stop. Look carefully. First stop. Probably the most beautiful terminal in the world. It's got everything you look for in a terminal... dino's, flags... My favorite connecting tunnel. The Neon People Mover connecting UAL's terminal B&C. I finally have some time to stop and get pics. No rush on this connection. Alright then, the polls are open for guesses on the: Origination Point and Stop One Tripp got the origination so he scarfs up the first point. Stop number two... is located on this screen. (I make this game so easy) Since 1968, the Queen Of The Skies. Boeing 747-400. For the next 20 or so hours this plane is going to be glued to my arse. The only problem with Boeing's fine airliner, is UAL's execution of the seating arrangement. I have to spend the next 16 hours (plus ground delay) with my knees burrowed into the seat ahead of me. My new neighbors demonstrate the position here. Wings bend up, vapor flares, your airborne. It's still a magical moment. But then they serve lunch. At flight level 330 the hot vapor from the engines is turned into ice crystals in a matter of a few feet when exposed to temperatures of -55F. Nice sunset, eh? This is the first sunset. Sunrise over the North Pole. Check out the terrain. A little fuzzy, but you get the picture... Heading south from the polar region. You can only do this since the USSR went kaput and got friendly. In previous times a stray airliner was prone to be attacked by Sukkhoi fighters. Remember KAL 007? Fligh Level 395. A new personal record. The old queeny just keeps climbing as the fuel load lightens. Sunset for the second time this flight. Why does that sound so wrong? Because my was flat and I am getting grumpy! Second transit stop. There may be a clue here but I don't read Chinese, Mandarin, or whatever it is. I was just worried about finding the transfer desk. Recognize this terminal? Probably not too many people will since it is (here come some clues..) 1. very new. 2. The airport it replaces was well known as the most dangerous approach in the world. (think red checkered flag painted on a mountian) 3. is built on reclaimed land. Time for a guess: what is Interim Stop 2? This picture contains the name of the next destination. Sorry again, as I expained I can't interpret the characters. I bet a google search (UA 895) might get you something to work with. (Message edited by tripper on November 06, 2005) |

This brings us into Destination No. 1. This should be easy to guess. (hint... scroll down and read Tripp's post) After a 90 minute break from that bitchy Queeny airplane, we got back on for another four hour leg. Destination in sight now. On the ILS over one of the world's largest sea ports. Just past Midnight local time. It's Monday morning, the entire weekend was spent in that frickin Queeny arliner. Gawd do I hate Boe.... (check the anger Dave!) This is the first immigration hall Iv'e been through where the agents offer you some candy. Hospitality is King here. There's a clue here... Line up for your taxi here. It's 1 AM for cripes sake! If your just checking in I think we have one point up for grabs (Interim Stop #2). We'll have more available after I block Tripp's IP from Badweb. Some pics from Destination 1 which Tripp has already bagged the point for... Monday morning arrives and this is the view out my hotel window. Don't suck, right? A litle bit o' home, right ouside the hotels front door. Schweet. When's the last time ya saw one of these? The Maserati you idiots! Ever sleep with the curtains open? That hotel across the way, see those pod lookin things on the corner.... Yep... elevators. Better face torward the door if you don't like heights. This is where the 12X optical zoom w/ 4X digital zoom and Anti-Shake software comes in real handy. She lifted her sweater for me right after this was taken. I got to find a way to stay ahead of you guys. Tripp gains 2 points - Buffalo and Changi, which is the Singapore airport. Toona grabs one point for Chicago's Ohare Airport. Correct guess on Buffalo but Tripp beat you by a few minutes on that one. Interim stop # 2 is still up for grabs. There are some clues there even though the pictures are not obvious. Whose gonna get the point? There will be at least 4 (prolly more) destinations coming up. Watch this space for more pics. Alright SEANP!!! We got us our third weiner. And a real live American Hero, check out his profile. Hey Sean, 1973 was a vintage year. You were born and I graduated high school. (you weren't born in southeast michigan by chance...) I know what you mean about TWO... I spent a year in Tyrone, GA. Love Atlanta. Watch out for Glitch and some nut named Beullish. He be the purple S2 that sucks you into corners and leaves you to crash! Great guys. So score one point for SeanP. That's all the available points for leg one. More destinations will be up for grabs soon. Tune in then. Leg One Recap:

Hey Tripper, Your mom wants me to tell you to keep your game away from Jordan for a while..... She's not to fond of France right now either! If you ever get to Amsterdam let me know. Other than obvious reason's to like Amsterdam, we now have family (your aunt and uncle in law, make sense?) there. Chow, Paul |

On the move again Friday evening. We had some fun in Singapore and it really is a beautiful city. A bit of an Asian experience in a western sort of way. At the Singapore airport the prototype Airbus A380 had just arrived, performing airport trials (will the runway crumble?) and some PR for the launch customer. After 7 hours in the air, we are approaching our destination. On short final over the city The welcoming committee A totally modern city with the worlds oldest form of human flight taking center stage. Anybody guess the city? Need a better clue?

Good reading 1313! The flag being backwards didn't throw you off a bit. Who said this was limited to Asia? Will post some more mid week. Score this point to 1313. |
