well, it was thanksgiving day, and I have not ridden the bikes since moving to arizona in October. so to ride the bikes. worst ride ever. I have been used to driving out of my addition in northern cal and being on the best curvy roads around. I put on a new joe rocket jacket and it was hot! the jacket was new and kept bunching up behind my helmet pushing my helmet forward.....not comfortable. Then the bunching would not let me turn my head right or left. Not fun. and to top it off, it was hot, it was hot! cooled off as it got darker and was better but not fun. no curves. California, all curves. then to top it off I almost bought the farm when I got home. I was hot and thought i would take off my coat and gear and cool off. no helmet law in arizona, so I thought I would ride around the block. Some goofy guy in a cadilac trie to turn left from the far right lane across all lanes....guess who was approaching...I put on the brakes (thanks for the new dual perimeter brakes) and the guy finally realizing what he was doing and throwing on his brakes, or I would be with the turkey bones and dressing tonight. Arizona. not the best place to ride a bike...rex | ||

Sounds like a gear malfunction. Why was it bunching up? Turkey overload? | ||

new jacket, still stiff, belly too full from food...you know how new helmets and jackets are....takes a while for the leather, etc. to soften up. rex | ||

My worst ride was years ago during a blizzard. Rode 20 miles on ice & snow (three offs) only to find the feckin college was closed - the lecturers couldn't make it in their cars. Then I had to ride 20 miles back home... | ||

Not to fear Rex as there are some great roads there. Check in with the old AZ hands in the stormfronts as they showed us some during Springfast. | ||

Rex, I feel your pain. My wife and I moved to Sun Lakes Az. last January. After living in Breckenridge, Colorado for twelve years it was quite a change. If we wanted to go on a mountain ride to Prescott it was a 400 mile round trip. Tortille Flat was 100 mile round trip with 30 of that being curvy and the rest being stop and go straight line. And people in Phoenix think of a ride up and down South Mountain Park as a real ride. After three months I moved back to Breck. The wife followed six weeks later. She misses the winter time warmth. But I willing to put up with living in a winter time ski area to not have 100 plus temps in the summer, and have good roads to ride. Good Luck Kim | ||

Kim- That's what I said to the guy that offered me the job in Phoenix, "The grass isn't always greener". My son is seriously dating a girl from W.Pueblo, so it looks like I have a good reason to come out next summer. I hope to run into you guys then. Rex - I haven't heard if Bartimus and the gang are thinking of doing another Springfast ride this year, but several of us are palnning on coming out either way. Maybe we can get together then? How do you like that freeway riding, 80/10/85/10/0/90/20 mph ? | ||
