I have a little TOYota pickup which I have needed to use to rescue my sick bikes and do yardwork.
Of course I drive it to work too.
This is an area that it sucks at. It's cramped in there and it only gets 20MPG.
I have been starting to think that perhaps it would be better to get a small car and tow a trailer when I needed cargo capacity.
So here is the question:

Anyone here follow through on exchanging truck for car+trailer?

I know this is not really the trailerqueen's hangout BBS but I figured that someone had a "friend" that used a trailer to move his bike. ; )

It's not a car, but I've found my 4Runner to be a very efficient and effective vehicle. I get ~22.5 mpg in the city and about 27 on the highway. It seats 4 adults with one car seat. It's at Home Depot constantly. It will pull my fully enclosed 12x8 bike trailer without any problem. It's nice enough to take out to dinner, and not so nice that I can't truly use it.

Oh yeah, I have 47,000 miles on it and I've yet to hear one rattle.

All-in-all it's been a fantastic buy at $24,000.

My $.02.

Dago...I'll second that. I have a '00 Sport Edition and have 109k on it. Picked it up for 18,000.00 in 2002. I've only done the scheduled service and this thing is SOLID. I have pulled the same size trailer and forget its back there. Very good vehicle.

I had no idea that 4-runners got good fuell economy.

I was actually puzzled that my toyota got 20. I was expecting that it would get at least 25. It has manual everything and a V6.
If I knew it was only going to get 20, I would have got another caprice classic.

I can't afford to buy anything new. My commute is about 100miles round trip.

I have an Avalanche and an enclosed trailer set up. Don't see that kind of milage though, more like 16-18mpg city 20ish highway w out trailer.

Nate, I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!

I own a Jeep Wrangler, 17MPG highway only. I drive a 200 mile commute every Thursday along with a 30 mile every day the rest of the week. I just bought a 1988 Corsica from a friend's mother who is no longer driving. The car is very clean except that both mirrors and all for corners of the car have paint scraped off from her less the stellar depth perception while operating the car.

Although it is not nearly as cool as my Jeep to drive, it will be saving me around $80 a month in gas. Keep your eye open while driving, you will find the best deal in someone's front yard.

My Honda Element gets 25mpg, has 160 HP and with the seats out, a Blast fits inside. The XB9 doesn't however. It will pull a trailer up to 1500lbs, no problem. A decent used 2003 will go about $14k. Which, considering I got mine new in '03 for $16k, the resale is real good.

I have a couple of later model rodeos, and a 93 trooper..

My 00, is a v6, 5spd 2wd, and has gotten 26+mpg witht eh CC on, are 65-70...

My 99, gets somthign like 15-17 around town, adn 20 IF I AM LUCKY, though, its turnning 33s..

They both have room inside for alot of stuff..and can haul 4500 punds without missing a beat..

My troop, my X1 can fit inside..though its a bit too big to be doing that.

I was actually looking into a Chevy Astro..not the most econmical thing, but room for a bike or 2, etc...

Play with your options...see what you can find
