In a couple of weeks, I'll have the money to buy a new bike. It's going to be either a Buell XB12X Ulysses or a Moto Guzzi Breva 1100. Both have their plusses and both have their weak points. The Strong points of the Buell are that it handles well, weighs less, has really nice suspension, makes good horsepower and torque, comes with optional Hepco & Becker Bags, has a good dealer network and reasonable parts prices. The Strong points of the Guzzi are that it has a reasonable seat height, looks absolutely stunning and seems more my type of motorcycle. I also have a Dealer nearby who I've known for years and who I hold in high regard.
On the negative side, I'm not in love with the XB platforn styling, and I'm not too sure if I want to have to get used to a seat height suited more for Michael Jordan than my 30" inseam. I also don't care for the idea that to get into the transmission, the cases must be split. The negatives of the Breva are the poor dealer network, difficulty in obtaining parts, and the fact that I can't even get a look at one, let alone test ride one. I don't have any idea when it'll be available. I also think the Factory bags look like dung. They look like they were rejects from an Aprilia Futurama.
They're priced comparably and both should be as reliable as anvils. They both have pushrod engines (which I consider a plus) the Breva has shaft drive while the Uly has a Keebler Hydrox belt.
My problem is that on one day, I'm convinced that the Buell is the way to go; then the next day(literally), i feel equally strong about the Guzzi.
I'm going to post this on both Wildguzzi.com and Badweatherbikers.com. Maybe it'll help me to decide which way I want to go.
(My wife is pulling for the Guzzi, 'cause she loves her Breva 750 so much.)

I wouldn't own a Uly if I had a 30 inch inseam. Sooner or later, it will cause bleeding. I hate to see you turn away from Buells however. Maybe a model that is lower?

Have you seen my promotion I have going on?

Maybe the low seat on the Uly would help.
I should have one in a week or so.

I took a look at the Breva 1100. I've never ridden it, but it looks to be the spitting image of the BMW R1150R. A good bike to be sure, but if I had to make a choice between the two I'd go with the BMW as it's got a significantly larger dealer network than the Moto Guzzi (though significantly smaller than Buell/HD).

Out of curiousity, why are you making a decision between a Uly and a Breva? Why not get a XB12SS or XB12SCG and hang the desired accessories on it? Seems like the Uly and Breva are apples and oranges.

Why not get a XB12SS or XB12SCG

No hard bags, the X and the BReva both have Factory hard bags
And i know Crusty likes his hard bags, he finished up a set for his M2
