For those of you in the Northeast; has anyone had any experience using an EZ-Pass tucked into the clear compartment on top of the tank bag? In case you are wondering, EZ-Pass is an automated toll collection device that is read as you drive through the toll both. | ||

Do these dang toll passes work across state lines? Or are they incompatible / state specific (i.e. we have "ipass"...) I have a feeling it's the latter. | ||

According to the EZ-Pass literature, it will work on toll roads that are equipped from Maine to Virginia. I haven't used mine yet but if I can find a convenient place to keep it, it will sure beat hunting for change while on a bike. | ||

Brother, I don't know about the tank bag but I would also like to know...i have seen one stuck on the front of a rider's helmet ...as far as I am aware EZPass is valid on the I-95 corridor wherever there is a toll road, it certainly is usable in NJ and DE. | ||

the I-Pass in Illinois works in the tank bag, 90% of the time -- gotta make sure it's oriented more or less the same way as if it was in a windshield, but after that, yer golden | ||

On the way from Virginia Beach, to Mass, there are ALOT of tolls..and yeah, thos beats digging for change... Anyway, I have an ID hodler the goes around my arm..(use it for my Mil ID, to get through the gate), I stuff it in there, put it on my arm facing forawrd...and go for it... Chase} | ||

It figures...15 minutes after I post this the EZ Pass people answer the e-mail I sent them over a week ago. Good news anyway. Dear E-ZPass Customer, Motorcycles will always use an interior tag IAG136 classified for ONLY motorcycles; you can place the tag in the breast pocket of your shirt or jacket, if it doesn't have a windshield, making sure the barcode is facing outward, it will scan through your clothing. *** Be sure that they send you the IAG136. I think they scan with microwave radio. My friend has an M2 and he stuck his behind the plastic flyscreen. He said it works fine. | ||

If you've got a 9R/S with a 12 inner airbox, that little pocket where the solenoid goes might be a keen spot for it. | ||

EZ Pass does now work in Illinois. Here is a link to the current map of states it can be used in: http://www.ezpassnj.com/static/info/facilities.shtml I have used my pass in the tankbag, as well as on the windshield. Never a problem. | ||

E-Z Pass will work fine in the clear pocket of a tank bag. Done it for years. And yes, it does work across some state lines. Used one clear on down into Delaware just yesterday. Henrik | ||

No, you cannot use a Motorcycle pass in a car, but you can use a Car pass on a MC. In the NY area, there are discounts on a few bridges for bikes, which is why they issue bike specific passes. You can have multiple passes linked to the same account. I have 2 cars and 1 bike pass all on the same account. As long as the account is linked to a credit card, they don't charge for the extra passes, at least in NY they don't. Each state has different charges and policies. | ||

They are pretty adamant about keeping the pass out of the shaded portions of the windshield. I'm guessing that the MC pass has some additional signal strength so it can be read under your clothing...especially through thick leather. | ||

Garp's got it. One additional bit of info; make sure you get a pass for each of your vehicles. Each pass has a serial number that's linked to your account and a specific license plate # within your account. If there is a glitch in the EZ Pass reader system at the toll (it happens), the system snaps a photo of the vehicle license plate as well. Then the license and pass serial # is manually compared/researched, and if it turns out you've used your pass in a different vehicle, you'll get a bill for for their trouble. Last I heard that was $25. I think they may do random checks as well - and the result of that would be similar. Considering you're not getting billed for extra passes, it makes good sense to get for all your vehicles. I got a car tag (don't own a car) that I use in rental cars. I just go online and change the vehicle info for that tag when I rent. Of course I remember to change it back to something silly after I return the rental car. Henrik | ||

Steve; It's been a few years since I got my passes, and the trouble I ran into at the time was, that I didn't have a car license plate to "connect" a car tag to. Oddly enough, when I called to ask, it turned out I didn't even need a plate #?? I also couldn't register my 2 bikes to the same MC pass. I'm glad to hear they've made the rules more sensible. Brother, I have the amigo tank bag and my Pass works fine as long as its in a vertical orientation. I use the front pocket of the tank bag. Again the big thing I've found is the tag needs to be vertical or near vertical Oddly enough I was pissed off on a trip as the tag didn't work in all the places I thought it would, so I stuck it in the front pocket to get rid of it. As I pulled up to the booth to get a ticket, the attendant informed me that my ezpass registered. Its counter intuitive as the bag material is pretty thick. I'm pretty sure the tags are RFID types, very short range. Not trackable by any means. I use the thruway quite a bit and I'm sure I've made exit to exit times that are shorter than "cough cough" the legitimate time. So far so good | ||

Myself and a few others have traveled through NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD with the EZ pass from our cars in the tank bag map case. For those of you with intermittent issues...We found that in going through the toll, if we didn't sit up and were leaning over the tank...it didn't read. We just get nice pics of our license plate with a request to confirm, no fines. | ||

Good points about the reading. As I roll through the booth, I lean back a bit while lifting/angling the map pocket with the tag up a bit with my left hand. Usually no problems. Henrik | ||
