I've been kickin' cones for a while now and finally got the good ol' Marine Corps to cover the training! YAY! My first class is tomorrow... Wish me luck! I've got a bunch of boneheads with literbikes as their first ride cuz, "They don't want to get bored with them..." | ||

Good Luck and enjoy. This is was my 2nd year of coaching, did 20+ classes this year, and it has been fun every time - and satisifying. Just always remember - you are not an expert; experts are usally full of sh*t. Do the best you can and each class will get easier. | ||

I wanted to make the November ride, as it included the stretches I havn't been on yet, but after Oktoberfast and shredding Palomar/other dandy SoCal roads, my tires have had it. Budget is tight so maybe Dec or in the new year. Hey Gomo, I'm super full of sheit! Just not with my students  I taught my first class this week. All passed well. Guess I'm doing something right!  | ||

great...teach 'em to lay off the front brake on slow speed stops, corners and gravel for awhile.. most early drops occur as a result of over-application of the front brake, due to 'instruction' | ||

Buelliedan, Check around. Instructors in SoCal are getting 18-30 bucks an hr and up to $80 for holiday instruction. An associate of mine opened his own school here in Yuma and it's doing well; and were a pretty small city. Maybe you could look into going into business too? Another idea if you have a base close to you is to apply for the traffic safety manager job on base. It pays well and you'll be in charge of the BRC/ERC among other things... Tramp, The BRC teaches "Basic" motorcycling skills. These students are going to have spills. The MSF won't stop teaching that the front brake makes for 70% of braking because it's fact. I don't remember the course focusing on this aspect though. The goal is maximum braking without skidding either tire. | ||

Blake, No, in TX you must have an approved Sponsor unless you are your own TX DPS approved school which requires a lot of stuff including a parking lot. I do make good money (about $18 an hour) when I teach but I can't get enough classes to be fulltime. The biggest problem is that in San Antonio to Austin area we have a surplus of instructors right now. I actually had an opportunity to work full time at Ft Hood but the ride was just too far from SA each day. Now I am moving to Colorado to pursue something else but I am going to see how the MSF market is up there. | ||

Sweet. Good luck in your move. As far as obtaining a parking lot, my friend just uses his church's parking lot. Usually only used on Sun and Wed. Makes for good Thurs, Fri, Sat classes. | ||

He must have a very undserstanding church. everybody down here is too worried about being sued if they let you use their parking lot. |
