Hello. Been a while since I've been browsing on BadWeb. Nice to see there's still a strong community.

My 99 M2 has developed a stress crack in the tail section at the rear corner of the seat. I intend to add a carbon fiber patch under the crack (lenghtwise in the channel where the frame tube lives) to reinforce it and (hopefully) keep it from cracking all the way down the tail. It was suggested that before applying the patch, I try to work some ABS glue into the crack to help fuse it. My questions are...

Is the tail section actually made of ABS plastic, or would some other glue work better?

Does my solution sound reasonable, or is there a better way to halt the crack?

Has anyone had any success w/ stopping a crack in their tail section?

Thank you. I would appreciate any feedback.

Bryan

I don't know exactly what material your M2 tail is made of but if you do repair underneath the best way to do this is take it off and lay up some material as you describe. Just make sure the surface is clean and if the material is directional go in at least two directions at a 45 to the crack direction. I have done this with bike parts and dashes in cars with good results.

I would make sure you know what the material is and consider a "tougher" glue...one that can move a little but is as compatible with the original material as possible.
