luvthemtorts-
right on-
timbers are listed endangered here, i've never found a new den, but two years ago i was able to show cause to relist an extirpated den as 'active' again, which was cool. just one big light phase, then, last spring, another small light phase. den is relisted with the state.
yep- clemmys muhlenbergi are cool critters, that's for sure.
i gotta figure out a away to email hardcopy photos.... i have some cool shots from '79 when i found a big, new population here.
actually, i'm pretty sure an article that our newspaper, here, did about me and my work with cricket frogs, will see print this weekend. i'll get a link toi you when it does. they took shots of me 'calling' cricket frogs with a 3/8" ratchet (near-perfect reproduction of their call). i did some nice work in showing that they are one of the only north american amphibians which move upland, away from water, to establish their hibernaculum. hey- before this gets too verbose, let me move this to the appropriate "herpetological research" section of the board

Doughnut,
If you're looking for a nice dog (or anyone else looking for that matter), I know of a very nice yellow lab. He's 7 years old, hunt and pet trained, currently not neutered since his previous owner was thinking of breeding him and his current owner never got around to it with him. He's up in West Bend and needs a good home this week or he's off to the shelter since the owner can't keep him due to a local relocation.
He's a very nice dog.

My wife and I currently have two dogs and one bearded dragon. The dragon was purchased, one of the dogs was rescued from a gas station where he had been abandoned, the other dog was adopted as a puppy from an unexpected litter.

I'd like to add another dog, but my wife and I disagree on that. It's not that she doesn't like dogs, it's the opposite. She thinks we won't be able to give three dogs the attention they need.

Two cats
Stu - ten years old
Polly - born 12 July 05
Had another cat named rover but he went out to play one saturday a year ago and disapeared. We have lots of coyotes and fishers in the area.
Stu was born outdoors when we lived in Alaska. There were lots of bears in the area so he learned to be cautious ay a very young age. He knows when to stand his ground and when to seek cover.

One cat.

Four dogs...all small emergency backup dogs (under 10 lb). All rescues.

Three parrots. (green cheeked conure, african gray, citron cockatoo)

One one-eyed crow. (Can't fly. When it tries, it goes in the direction its one eye sees, loops and augers...very sad. It thinks that one of the dogs is its mother...the one white dog, for some bizarre reason.)

One red-eared slider and another unidentified water turtle in the pond.

Somewhere between 20 and 40 box turtles (including this year's crop). They never all come out of the bushes at the same time, so who knows.

Twenty or so goldfish in the pond. There were a lot more before our backyard pond became the favorite fishing spot of a green heron. Ah, sushi!

From time to time, other various wildlife in need of rehabilitation.

Tramp,
Man we have got to hook up and do some serious herping next Spring!
I had a real blessing today. Went to check on the C. Galbinifrons (Flowerback Boxies) and had two eggs waiting for me. If they are fertile it will be one of maybe a handful successfully produced in the USA.
That is neat about the ratchet and the Cricket Frogs. I always likened it to running your fingers down the teeth of a comb.
As far as cool finds my best one to date was an unknown colony of Coal Skinks in an adjoining county. That discovery got me and my two daughters in a herpetological journal complete with the photos we took on file at the natural history museum. A close second was the discovery of a viable population of Eastern Spadefoot Toads in a county where they had never been documented.
I'm just waiting for the day that I flip a board and find a new Species LOL! (I'll settle for an albino anything as well)
