Just how many combination HD/Buell dealers are going HD only? They say that they will still work on the bike, and I might still use them...but I think I'd like to give a shop that is still selling the marque a chance to wrench on it first.

My local HD dealer stopped carrying Buells years ago. They told me I can't even order parts for my Buell there, but they'd sell the old stock they had. I only went there for filters anyway.

Yeah, that happened to me at Bridgeport HD in Connecticut. Lucky for me, I still have Danbury HD. They put on a Buell open house last month or so that was really great, even though we had bad weather. They said they are NOT going to drop the Buell line. They even said over half of their staff rides Buells over Harleys. That says something good about Buells and that dealership for sure! I hope this trend of losing dealerships stops. I find it hard to believe that a former dealership can't even get us parts! I know it cames down to money and how many bikes they sell and so on, but parts, come on! Most parts I need have to be ordered anyway, so I know Buell parts aren't just laying around taking up the all important 'chrome space'! We're lucky to have a site like this which has opened up many doors to parts and support around the country. But it's always nice to get them locally. These are great bikes, I sure hope they'll be around a long time!

When we were H-D Only dealers about 5 years ago, we weren't ALLOWED to order Buell parts. They had to turn us on when we were "approved". So it's possible that once you are not a Buell dealer anymore that they simply won't let you order Buell parts.

Don't know personally, since we ARE keeping Buell. : )

Thanks for the info, Chellem. I guess there are some company politics involved. Oh well. You folks at Liberty threw a great party last week! What a good time. Actually got to eat my lunch with Erik Buell. Won't ever forget it! He's a great guy who loves the people who love his bikes. Wish your dealership was closer to me. The more the merrier. You have a nice shop and the addition you are adding will only make it better. See you in the future: )

"KOSCO HD/BUELL....SERVICE MANGER SUCKS...MY .02 "

J Thunder does the above mentioned managers name start with the letter B and ryme with Mary?

If so, I'll add my $0.02 and he's up to four cents worth of sucking!

>>> Lucky for me, I still have Danbury HD.
Very lucky. Jeff Watson and Company are doing a super job. . . keep in touch with him.

>>>>I find it hard to believe that a former dealership can't even get us parts!

Easy to believe. Try ordering a part for your Dodge from a Ford dealer. In fact, it's a legal matter of "contract" with lots of elements.

How would you, if you were a Buell dealer. . . spending money on advertising, fancy "play it like ya stole it" cakes and parties and supporting your Buell customers, found out that the guy down the street could get the same stuff you got and simply cut your price by $1.

Part of the dealer contract is an element of quid pro quo. . . "you do for us certain things; we give you exclusive access to the factory parts bin".

Great example, and some of you recall years ago, was when an "unnamed entity" started a business called "Buell Motorcycles of America, Ltd" in Great Britain. The fight got good and I saved all the newspaper articles, memos and notes as to how we stopped them. "tell Mike it was only business" Remind me to tell you sometime.

"Try ordering a part for your Dodge from a Ford dealer."

Inaccurate statement.

"Try ordering a part for your Dodge from a Mercedes dealer."

Accurate statement.

Sorry, just couldn't resist using some "Court-isms"

Court and Chellem,

Up here in the Great White North where I don't have a Buell Retailer for 1600km my local Harley Davidson Retailer can order any Buell Part I can get a number for. They don't have parts manuals but this site has provided me with part numbers.

The turn around time is usually a day or so and the parts have to come from mainland Canada.

Ever think the retailer WON'T order the parts!!!

Personally, I think HD should allow all retailers both HD and Buell to complete warranty work, parts for the Buells. It would certainly open up to a lot more people.

I'd seriously consider another Buell but until I can get warranty coverage - No Bloody Way. I took a chance on my first one and I am not doing it again.

Court, met you at Liberty last week. You're a fun guy. I just want to respond to your 'buy dodge parts at a ford dealer' by saying, as you know, I bought my Buell at a Harley/Buell dealer. I see your point of the car guys being 2 seperate factories, but I thought Buell + Harley had a stronger relationship than 2 competeing auto makers. I understand there are some politics involved but it just gets harder on us, the Buell owner. I know we still have plenty of places to go but I hope no more Buell dealerships go away.

...or go to a Buell dealership currently listed on the Buell web page. See the Buell signage (minimal) at the store... Notice there are no Buells and the parts guy tell you they don't mess with Buells any longer. Sales tell you they haven't messed with Buells for over 6 months.

Try to buy a Mercury part at a Ford dealership.

IMO buying buell parts at a HD only dealer should be no different than my shop buying Cadillac parts at my local Chevrolet dealer. They are not a Cadillac dealer, hell we get all our General Motors parts from them. If a brand falls under the GM umbrella there is no problem. HD wants to be a company in the same content as these auto makers then start supporting all the brands under their umbrella. Or cut Buell loose from the cage they have placed them in.

Chellem - A little inside Jersey gossip. I was at the Williams HD customer appreciation party on Saturday and was informed that our BRAG Chapter, of which I was assistant director, is no more. It was also hinted that Williams might be giving up Buells, not that they ever really tried to sell them. Good thing I got my SS from you. I'll continue to ride with the Edison Brag and the Liberty Streetfighters anyway.

Jerseyguy -

You're the asst. director of the chapter and no one told you that the BRAG chapter was done? That's kinda wierd.

I haven't heard anything like that, but dealers don't exactly "share" that kind of stuff with each other. That's too bad if it's true; I had heard in the past a lot of good things about their Buell stuff.

For those of you who have mentioned looking up the status of things on the Buell dealer directory - I'm not sure how up to date that is as it still lists the local HD store as a dealer.

Anyway, I guess I'll contact a couple of the other local stores and see what their plans are. I'd rather reward an HD shop that's going to support the brand with my business than one that won't.

Chellem - The Williams parts and service guys were always great to me. I have no complaints there. The Brag chapter was always "combined" with the HOG chapter - a fundamental organizational flaw in my opinion. The riding styles and rider personalities don't seem to blend together that well. It reminds me of skiers and snowboarders. Both are doing similar things in the same place but in a very different way.

HD and Buell parts come from the same distribution center, so HD only dealers are not allowed to order Buell parts.

Think about what you just wrote there:
They come from the same distribution center.

By the way, I think I saw you in WestBend the other week. Might have even seen a little daylight under your front tire.

I was confirming Chellem's post, not sure what you are getting at?

If it was more then a foot off the ground, it probably wasn't me. I don't stunt, but I do enjoy the occasional power wheelie while launching and shifting to 2nd.

Front tire was maybe 6" up if that out in front of FleetFarm one evening (or Farm&Fleet, I get their names confused). Another day I was trying to catch up with a northbound XB on I-45 just to see the bike, I got stuck in traffic, he got off on Paradise.

There's a parallel thread on the site where they're talking about ordering Dodge parts at a Ford dealership (or something like that). Your comment just seemed to fit that thread.

Oh well.
