Well i posted a little while ago, that my 98 S1W was popping throught the carb
From what i understand a good starting point for jetting is 45 slow, however upon inspection that is the jet in place along with a 190 main
So the question is:
Should i step up to a 148 or is the another lurking problem i should be looking for
It pops HARD at 3k rpm, clears up above and below, but is a rear bear mid corner with this pop
A little help please(before i forget its a cv stock carb, and i am about at sea lever, stock pipe)

Rog- CHECK FOR LEAKS: intake manifold gaskets @ the heads, Intake rubber seal at the carb...Exhaust: exhaust gaskets at the head, header to muffler connection. don't underestimate that last one.
check intake seals by spraying starting fluid (lightly!!!!!) near associated junctions...any increase in idle indicates a leak. some folks use WD, I don't recommend it, as it's not vapourous enough to give a sensitive read.
for your exhaust, hold your hand over the very end, tightly, and listen to the associated seals...it's gonna leak at the 'weakest link'.
what the HE*L is a "rear bear mid corner", anyway?

Make sure your vac.line for the VOES has not come loose. Have you had carb. apart? Diaphram may not be seated properly. Good luck........Charlie

The pipe dosent leak, i installed it last week, and did all the checks on it, so the pipe is good to go, but i will have to check the header at the head and see if its cool there
Intake seals was what i was kinda thinking, i guess i didnt want to admit it, oh well have to head back to the dealer anyway
I didnt think of the VOES, have to check that, i belive i have a spare, i could just do a quick swap and see what up

Roger....mine was popping last year. Turned out to be the intake manifold gaskets.

Are you taking her down with us in October? I'm still debating which bike to ride. The tires on the S3T are starting to get thin. But Marilyn is a back-breaker. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

All the above is good, but you still may be right on the money with jet change. Seems real lean to me for thunderstorm motor at sea level. Check plugs for lean condition. Good jetting at minimum 48 pilot, 195 main. Does it pop at 3k in each gear, or mainly in 4 or 5? Also drill(carefully)plug out of idle adjust screw hole and adjust this jet as well. CV can be an excellent street carb when adjusted right, and can be done for a whole lot less money than new carb and manifold. Dynajet kit good too. But we can go on and on, the main thing is to fix this pop.
