How about this, I've got an 1999 Buell S3T... how about turning it into this:
http://www.rochestermotorsports.com/miscpage_002.asp

Not exactly the T-Rex, but similar idea. Register it as a MC or kitcar. Possibly get parts from a 90's vintage Corvette as with the front tires. Now I just need to build a frame. I guess I should take some welding classes first. I'll put my mechanical engineering to the test!

I love the Buell, would hate to tear it apart. But love my XB for the twisties.

That place is right up the road from me. I think I'll take a ride up there this weekend. I saw 2 of those a year or two ago at Laconia, but didn't really get a chance to check them out.
Thanks for the link.

if you're doing this with a new frame, why waste a well-engineered tuber?
just get a sportster....

Tramp, If my bike is only worth $5k (used) I would rather use the whole bike (including saddlebags) to make a trike like the T-rex. I need a 2 seater type.

-How the heck would I manage the transmission to get a reverse gear?

use a bmw boxer engine and transmission. pick up a complete r75/5 or /6 or an r90/6 and use it. much easier trans to mess with in terms of reverse,. the engine configuration (with the shaft) is much easier for setting up in that vehicle, and it would cost a fraction of what your buell is worth.

I don't think it's a good idea. The frame design on your S3, though stiff, is not meant to take the loads imposed in a trike application.

If you are doing your own trike specific frame, an engine with gobs of power would be my choice, maybe a Hayabusa, or Yamaha V-4 touring engine would be better.? You should be able to pick up a late 80's Superbike from japan for cheap.

Oh yeah, it's heresy.

I'd probably NOT cut the tube frame, though build a new housing for the engine. I'd like to be able to reassemble what I switch over if I ever want to.

I was thinking of trying to make it American made, thus the reason for using HD/Buell. Also trying to use what I already have in stock, not purchase a whole lot of new stuff, to keep costs lower. The Corvette suspension would be a cost of around $600 to the project. I'll have to work out dimensions and stuff.

Since trikes are made out of sportsters, Champion makes a REVERSE Gear unit for the sum of $1300, which is a large expense, but I need a reverse gear for this project.

I may look for M2's that I could canabolize, if I didn't find a sportster with a supped up.

Hey! Chop up you own S3 if you're going to chop up a Buell! It's not like M2's are some inferior subspecies of Buell. Sheesh!

I'm thinking this BBS might not be the best place to see approbation for any project that involves chopping up any Buell model.

I would in no way say that a Buell is an inferior species! I love em! I have raised myself on them since my first S2. I want to extend Buell to other areas of my life. I want to make things with my Buell that I think that Buell Motor Company should make.

I would not chop a Buell up I would just re allocate its resources. I sure folks who want certain parts wouldn't mind, if I were to resell parts, but I don't plan on doing that. I would only make something that would, in fact, represent all that Buell stands for. (Can you see the patriotic flag waving in the background, hearing the star spangle banner playing in the background?).
