Re Frijid Pink's "House": Got it! I hadn't heard it in years but my head still knew what it sounded like. My head was right: The thundering guitar crunch that opens it was exactly as I remembered. Yeah! Dayum, that's good. |

The first concert I went to was Jethro Tull during the "A" album tour. I had third row seats and mine was on the aisle. The Brit band, UK opened for them. Oakland, 1979. |

>>>During the first recording or live performance of the song. The singer was to drunk/stoned to get it out and slurred it. Thus it remains as it is now. That is an accurate statement. |

No Tramp that's not the answer I was looking for. Dylan said of the Animals version of 'House' that's what inspired him to go 'electric'. The weird thing about it though was the Animals were inspired to record their version of 'House' after listening to acoustic Dylan ....................and that too is an accurate statement. Rocket |

Hey Tramp.. I knew of an Andrew Morrison that did some composing/arranging with Van Morrison a while back. I don't think that's the man you're talking about though .. I had no idea that the Lizard Kings little brother was in music.. What about his sister? You've got me curious.. |

Ok, here's a couple of easy ones (see, I know some music trivia as well..) Who Wrote - Black Magic Woman? Who is Farrokh Bulsara? What Band/Song is Burton Cummings most famous for? Extra points - What is Mr. Cummings doing now? Who are the 'Stalk Forrest Group'? How old was the lead guitar player on the original recording of 'Journey to the Center of the Mind'? Who was the guitar player in question? OK.. take it gang.. |

Burt Cummings was lead singer for the Guess Who, and their most famous song was probably American Woman. The lead guitarist for the Amboy Dukes was, of course, Ted Nugent, and I think he was 18 or 19 when they recorded Journey To The Center Of The Mind. I can get the low hanging fruit pretty easily... |

"Who Wrote - Black Magic Woman?" I know it was a hit for Fleetwood Mac in their original incarnation with Peter Green. "What Band/Song is Burton Cummings most famous for?" I don't know what he's most famous for, but Randy Bachman and Cummings were the nucleus for the Guess Who. There's a catsup [my preferred spelling] commercial on now with "Stand Tall" on it. Don't know what he's doing now, but Randy Bachman is still plugging away. |

jim morrison's sister married a solid guy, raised a beautiful family, and wrote a short bio of her famous brother's relationship with his family, especially right before he moved to paris. one of the doors' close friends (& fellow UCLA film school grad) collaborated with her on the project- strangely, it featured many photos of the lizard king, from 1970-71, enjoying barbeques with his parents, and even attending a dodgers game with his dad and his own best friend, babe hill. the book was viewed as sort of a pariahal anti-expose, shedding light on the close, warm relationship the man had with his family, and it was wildly UNpopular. after his gravestone (the sculpted bust) at pere lachaise was totally defiled at pere lachaise, his own parents replaced it with a more dignified monument inscribed in greek. both wept profusely when the new stone was set in place. oh, yeah- younger brother andy is the drummer for the 1980s LA punk-folk band "X", produced by Ray Manzarek, another rock icon with an honourable hitch in the US Army. andy goes by the monniker "Don Bonebreak". X frontman "John Doe" can be seen in many feature films these days, and frontwoman Exene Czervenka and Billy Zoom play a few gigs together each year. |

Tramp, Cool news about the sister.. I can understand how the 'fan base' would never be able to accept someone saying that Jim loved his family. It kind of goes against the 'popular image' of him as a pariah in his own home. I knew Manzarek had produced 'X', just had no idea that Bonebreak was Andy Morrison. Thanks for the info! |

Buell_Less, Good call! Ted Nugent was the Amboy Dukes lead guitar. He was 15 years old when they got their first gold record. By the time he was 19 that band was coming apart quite a lot. Most was said to be due to Teds' dislike of people that were stoned or vomiting drunkards while he wanted to play music. Yes on Burton Cummings. Both counts.. Burt is currently still active in the music industry with over 35 gold and platinum records on his walls. After he left The Guess Who, he realized he didn't want to do the 'record, tour' thing any more.. he'd also discovered the business side and was able to make very good money just writing and publishing. He's written hit songs for just about every Blues, Pop, Rock and Jazz singer/dancers as well some bands that are out there. Some of which (in an interview I heard once) he said he wasn't so proud of, but they more then paid the bills, so he's good with that. American Woman was a response to local Canadian girls complaining that a Canadian band would spend so much time 'south of the border' with US women. So he wrote the song and they originally were playing it only in Canada, almost as a joke, until the record company knew they had struck gold with it. Black Magic Woman was written by Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. However, they've made more money from Santanas' cover of their tune then they ever did from their recording of it. (John and Mick decided it wasn't quite right for them when they re-formed and 'gave' it to Carlos).. Ok.. so what about the other tune related questions? Anyone? |

I had an excellent text on these matters, entitled "Rock And Roll Family Trees", published, I belive, by music sales co., which had fold-out family trees of bands from the 50s through the 70s....incredible the interrelationships. if anyone can find that book, I heartily recommend it. fascinating stuff. blublak- Ray Manzarek sort of took young andy under his wing by the time "the soft parade" was released. Exene Czervenka is Ray's cousin. Andy would hang out with ray and Paul Rothschild and play Johnny densmore's drums. ray assured The Admiral and the Missus that he'd look out for andy when Jim was on bombed or when they were on the road and andy tagged along. ray was older and more worldly than his bandmates, and far more responsible. He was a favourite of the Admiral, despite his habit of rooting for "Army" when they attended Army/Navy games. after Jim passed away, Ray continued to be a sort of uncle to young andy, and when his own cousin was putting together a band and needed a drummer and a producer, Ray stepped up on behalf of both parties. Ray is, to this day,an eerily intelligent and warm guy. the same might be said for Babe Hill, Jim's best friend. Babe rides a road king and stays in touch with ray, who, in turn, stays in touch with his slavic family, both in eastern europe and in New York, whom he'd visit when attending army/navy games with the admiral, who's an unparalleled jokester and sterling wit. The Admiral's also very kind to 11 year-old motocross freaks who have no interest in west point Football games.... (Message edited by tramp on September 16, 2005) |

Thank You, Mr. Court. And since the question on the song "Motorhead" has been passed by.... It was originally recorded by Hawkwind while Lemmy was with this one. Lemmy later used the name for his band and re-recorded it. Something a bit different. Look at Skynyrd these days. What do you see? Some of the best of southern rock in one place. -Rick Medlocke of Blackfoot -Hughie T of The Outlaws |

"younger brother andy is the drummer for the 1980s LA punk-folk band "X"" I heard that X performed the cover of Wild Thing heard in the movie Major League. True? Even if not, it's a great scene and an excellent cover. (Message edited by buell_less on September 16, 2005) |

Tramp, Warsaw became Joy Division, which became New Order after Ian Curtis snuffed it. Peter Murphy was frontman for Bauhaus before his solo career. Remaining members of Bauhaus morphed into Love And Rockets and Tones On Tail. Don't know the "easy" one. HellBuelly J |
