Reep,
I was probably trying to figure out how to get out from under my KLR without damaging my body or the El Camino I was pinned against.

p.s. It's Bike Week in O.C. this week, any takers?

The S1 started to fall over one day in the garage and I decided to catch it while kneeling next to the bike.

You see health care in Canada is free but bike parts are not.

My lovely wife helped wedge it back to an upright position while laughing and calling me a dumbarse.

Ok, I will bite...

When i wrecked the bike in July, ordered the parts...

My buddy had come over to help me set the contorls to MY feel....

Well, the X1 hit the ground 2 tiems in a week. BUT... I had both feet on the pegs(with a knee that was well bandaged), bike fell, with me still on it(on the same side a wrecked thankfully)...

Wedged my ankle between the case, and the concrete, and kinda got pinned....

My buddy was all of 140 lbs....being generous...probably less....

He tried to pick the bike, and went in and got my roomies, whom preceeded to laugh themselves hoarse...

So yeah Tramp, I do agree....

Not my worst, but looking back on it, it must have been funny to see....

Trying to do a smiley in the garage(On the never present Big Kids Blast) with the Little Kid looking on, it gets away from me and goes down. Little Kid looks at me and asks"What Are You Doing?"
No broken anything.
Lesson learned: Dem Tings gets mighty slippery whens youz trying to go sideways!

Try topping this one: running your new XB9 into your own car, totaling the car, in your own back yard. Party for a departing friend to Iraq and we needed a foul line for the dart board in the garage. We thought it'd be cool that the line be a burn out mark. Let your imagination wander from there.

The wife backed over my fresh new XB12Ss last week, does that count as a dumb arse move?
She started crying and I told her that it was no big deal, at least this bike is like the other two. My X-1, left it in the sloped driveway, ran in side and it had backed down and the stand fell off the edge of the driveway into the yard, but still broke some stuff on it. Fast forward year and a half, my sidestand broke is bolt, but still keeps the bike upright, but I have to set it down REAL easy, got off two seconds, WHAM, FORK!! dang bike fell over, broke the left footpeg (lowered style on Firebolt) and the lens for the blinker, had blinker peice from when X-1 fell over, bought new regular 'bolt pegs. Got XB12Ss fell on left side, broke right lowered peg, guess what??? Right lowered peg leftover from fallen XB12R. Moral of the story, if you break something keep the good part, you may need it.

also, my brother put his kickstand down on an asphalt parking lot, when he came back his bike was on the ground with the sidestand stand length + in the ground

I've done lots of stupid things. Like the one time I came to a stop at a stop sign & forgot to put my feet down. The little Nighthawk 450 got just a little scuffed on the tip of the clutch lever.

Then one rainy night as I'm leaving work on my Ex500 it occurs to me that I forgot my gloves. I park the bike and run inside to grab them. I grab my gloves and run right back out only to find my bike lying on it's left side looking very much like a dead horse.
I learned the hard way that night to make sure you put your kickstand down on solid ground. Mud don't work too good. I ended up with a cracked fairing & a broken turn signal.

I was on a ride in Novascotia, decades ago
nighttime, and got off to talk to my partner,
No stand guess what!

backed down a ramp in Miami about a year and a half ago lost my footing at the bottom, that incedent ended similar to Chases' above the guy with me was a light weight, and I got pinned under the bike, Bill was a sport about it though I expect that it made the rounds at the office,
we welded up the foot rest and re tapped it lasted long enough to enjoy Miami.

I'll admit to have crashed my bike on occasion, but I've never dropped it while working on it. My motor did tip over when it was out of the chassis, but the damage was one scuff on something I was painting anyway.

When I lived at my mom's I left her on a centerstand with a jack on the front shock mount. I had the front wheel off awaiting a new rotor. After deciding that it should be safe to leave momentarily I left the garage to get some grub. I ended up leaving it there 'til the next morning. My mom went out to take out the trash (which was my frikkin' job anyway) and I heard a subdued thump from inside the house. She said nothing. I casually look around to see what "thumped" and then went to the garage. That thud was the sound of 450lbs of bike slapping concrete. I was livid, but got over it. I managed to pick the bike up by the front end and put it back as it was. The damage was pretty substancial. To this day she completely denies any involvement.

About 1963 I'm headed out of The City and rolling up to the Golden Gate Bridge toll booths on an early Sunday morning. I'm on my '58 Triumph Thunderbird. I snick into neutral about 30-40 yards out, raise up on the pegs, and start fishing in my right front pocket for a Quarter.

I'm braking with my left foot and as I transition from the asphalt to the smoothly finished/well oiled concrete between the toll booths, the rear tire locks up, the rear end starts around to the right, and the bike starts down.

I manage to get my left leg out as it falls. The bike is now at full right lock and as it slides to a stop my left leg is across the left bar and I wind up sitting on the tank/engine on the right side of the bike holding onto the right side bar with my left hand and my right hand firmly jammed in my Levis pocket.

The toll booth attendent steps out, takes one look, yells "Safe!" and gives me the classic baseball umpire's two handed signal. This was much to the merriment of the guys in the adjacent tool booths.

I'm up, get the bike up, and I roll it over to the bypass lane to check the bike and salvage my composure. Minor damage, bent foot peg, tank scratched. I was headed to Novato for the Marin County Sunday Morning Ride. But I don't want to show up with a damaged bike and a dumb story so I wind up spending Sunday working the trumpet.

San Franciscans are great people, but to add insult to injury, the "umpire" came over and asked me for the 25 cent toll because "I was on his counter and had to pay".

You *are* referring to your bike and not your mom ... right? ; )

I'm braking with my left foot...

Ah, the good old days...

Great story Jack! You should have told the tollbooth umpire that you got beaned and you were gonna take your base!

Had a Katana that fell over TWICE on a slanted drive. Once again, you think I'd have learned the first time. The second time was in front of the nephew. It always broke the mirror housing. Now I've got a mirror at work that I can check for bugs after a helmetless ride in.
Earlier in life, I had a FXRS that had a dead battery one morning. The driveway was also a slant (how'd I find two of those in Indiana?), so I figured I could get a good running start and dump the clutch. I started the turn onto the street, dumped the clutch, and the bike tire slid right out from under me. Like others, I was mad enough to lift it up before the neighbors saw!

Well sir, a couple weeks ago I was feelin' a little pumped up coming home from work. I was doing small wheelies and stoppies everywhere I could. So at one stop a sports compact was there with a couple of young guys looking on with glee as I landed a stoppie. It was their turn to go but they stayed there apparently waiting for a show. So I try to find first again, start rolling forward, put my feet on the pegs and grab a handful of throttle. I go nowhere and the bike starts to tip...I look down and there's the neutral light! My feet came down just in time to catch the bike. Them guys probably got a good kick out of it.

Picture the scene, Cambridge England late '70s,
I'm riding my TS250 Suzuki trail bike, no weakling electric starts just a good old righthand kicker,
Now those of you who were around in the '70s will remember the fashions & cringe; Anyway I pull up at a stop light in the middle of town & lean right only to find that the kicker is up the inside of my fashionably baggy jeans & my fashionable cowboy boot won't come off the peg.
I've never taken soooo loooong to fall over, to cap it all my right leg was pinned underneath & the left was cooking on the high level expansion chamber.

Ah the good old days indeed!

"Ah the good old days indeed!"

Oh yes, that strange time from the late 60's to the late 70's when bellbottoms and kickstarters mutually existed. I did the very same thing on my 175 Kawasaki in 1976.
