I picked up my 04 XB12r Saturday morning from the local Harley dealer who just wanted to get rid of the "weird thing" that had been cluttering his show room. Ah Well.
One potentially stupid question though: I have noticed a bunch of comments regarding the potential problems with non-buell techs working on Buells. How far does this extend? If I need something simple done like changing out a rear tire can I just go to a local (non-buell) shop? The closes Buell dealer is about 90 miles from here.

Even tires are better done yourself - remove the wheel and take it to a shop that sells the tires you want. You'll save maybe $50-$100 a tire change if you carry in the wheels.

Most horror stories have come from people taking their Buells to dealers that just didn't give a s**t or were too stupid/greedy/unethical to say they didn't or couldn't work on it.

I think 90 miles is cheap insurance on getting a job done properly.

Read lots here, buy a service manual, and don't be scared to ask questions (but PLEASE search the knowledge vault first). check out the most local BRAG group for the best service places.

Thanks for the tips, I'm more inclined to the DIY direction, I think I'll try that.

This is the place for us DIY guys, you'll love it here. I'm got a 2000 M2 this spring and would have sold it already if not for the knowledge found and excellent help received here. And the social repartee here is great!
