All, I'm about to embark on a new adventure ( for me, anyways) -- cutting threads, internal (cheers from the audience here)

I remember seeing the appropriate tool -- looked like a boring bar with the correct angle ground on the tip -- I've wandered around the online catalogs, to find nothing that wasn't designed for a CNC lathe with indexable tips for 3 large -- I've got a little lathe that is MAGC (Middle-Aged Guy Controlled), and I simply don't need (nor can afford) the zoomie stuff I've managed to find

can one of the seasoned metal munchers help a guy out with the proper term for the lealio I'm looking for?

thanks!

Use a boring bar that has 1/4" hole broached at a 90 angle to the direction of the shaft. It will have a threaded setscrew hole in the end to locate the 1/4" toolbit. If the 1/4" tool is too large they have them down to 1/8" I believe. Grind a 60 degree threading tool for this boring bar and have at it. This type of tool isn't too good if you have to thread up against an internal shoulder or blind hole. Also you can fabricate your own boring bar by taking a carbide 60 degree lathe tool and welding it on to the end of a piece of round stock. Hope this helps out.
