I start welding classes next week (night, after work). I've been practicing Stick welding at home just to get ready. I have an old 295 amp AC buzz box. No torch yet but a couple of grinders and etc. Are there a lot of professional welders on the BADWEB?

A few. Stick welding while it can be used on bike frames is overkill. You quite often burn holes in the tubing. Also you have to deal with nasty looking slag which can be hard to remove from corners and you'll also have to deal with the chipping hammer marks. Heliarc is better. Harrison Performance of England uses phosfor bronze brazing which is done with an oxyacetylene torch. It's actually supposed to be stronger then welding a joint together as long as it is properly mitered. To get the latest on welding tech, tools and techniques go to:

Thanks for all the info. I have to do stick because thats what we use at work (I am a Heavy Equipment operator at a mine, we use stick to work on the plants and fabricate guards and etc). But I am interested in all sorts of welding- I'm going to go check out that link right now- thanks...

Sandblast, by no means am I a pro at welding but I do believe the rig you use can make a mediocre welder a good one and a good one a great one. I have a Lincoln SP-175Plus MIG, an Ox/Acet setup and, arriving in the mail today, a Henrob 2000 torch/welder. I have always wanted one of these and got a good deal on ebay so I picked one up. I need a plasma cutter and a TIG welder but can't afford both so, having researched the web for over a year about the Henrob, I decided to get one. I have a friend that is a pro welder (used to be an underwater welder also) and he said "Buy it! Looks very impressive." I'm going to mess with it this weekend and will let ya'll know how it does. Take care.......Odie

Sand, will do. I just received a late Christmas present- a huge, stainless steel rollaway and chest from Sam's Club!!!! I am psyked!! I so needed this as I was out of tool storage room. One of the best presents I've ever received. Needless to say I am in a state of disrepair in the shop so as soon as I get tools swapped and things straightened I will post some pic's of the gun and of what it can do also......Later, Odie

I favor the thermal arc 185tsw.

it's a 185amp ad/dc squarewave, computer controlled inverter tig, and a stick.

cost about $1700 no regrets what-so-ever. : )

I invite you to check out Welding Talk. here is some henrob info for you.......

Dan, I wish I could afford to buy a nice TIG! I fired up the Henrob tonight and screwed with it a little. Layed a decent bead on some steel and a 4130 copper coated TIG rod. Gonna take some practice I can see. I'm going to mess with cutting a few things tomorrow as cleaning up slag after cutting with my torch is where all of my fab time goes. Should quicken things up somewhat for me I hope. I think I'll be happy with the Henrob after some practice. Thanks for the link also; good info there....Take care, Odie
