S2 paint bubbling? Are you sure? It's not a tank, it's a tank cover, like an X1. I can't imagine why it would bubble. | ||

Aaron, No, not sure. It was on the painted tank. No tank cover. People in question got in touch with the factory and found out what they needed. Really not sure of details. Bill | ||

Aaron, The tank cover on my s2 is bubling. Figure there is not a lot I can do to get it fixed, being that it is 6 years old. Looks more like fisheye bubbles due to improper prep. Carl | ||

Anyone with an X1 Service Manual handy? I need to know what the correct torque is for the two right side chin fairing screws that go into the sprocket cover. I added an X1 chin fairing to a 96 S1 and the torque for the stock screws which take about a 1/4" allen wrench is 20 - 25 ft/lbs. The X1 screws take about a 1/8" allen and that wrench is too small for that much torque (cause I've twisted one and buggered another). TIA, Sparky 96S1, 98S3 | ||

X1 reality check. All tourque values are "tight". Internals (oily bits) follow the book, but that chin fairing will jiggle like Charo at seisure world. I need info if anyone has figured out a fix for the self destructive O rings on the X1 chinfairing left side "extend-o" spacers (2 req'd). Im thinking of making nylon washers, Hmmm. | ||

I intend to remove the chin fairing on my X1. A simple question..... do I need to replace the bolts on the left hand side with shorter items and how do they make a seal with the engine casing (the black streaks down the side of the chin fairing suggest that they are "wet"). Thanks for any help Simon | ||

Are there any changes in the S3 bodywork between the 97-98 year models and the 99 and up models, other than the available colors and the decal? i.e., body geometry, materials, etc? Related question, has anyone replaced a fuel pump in an S3 tank? Could a tank that previously was for a carbureted buell have a fuel pump installed in it to replace the petcock? Al | ||

Headlight for 97 S1. I have a 99 BMW R1100r and a 97 S1 thought I'd pass this on. When I first got the BMW I was going for a 2,000 mile trip and wanted some kind of small fairing, after looking around and not finding what I wanted I stole the flyscreen off the Buell. It fit great and looked cool. That started me looking at the headlight assembly and coming to the conclusion that they are the same. This year I caught a rock in the BMW lens and thought since Buell parts were so reasonable I'd just get it from HD. Well HD wanted $150 I checked with BMW and I bought just the lens for $28.00. Just thought I'd pass this on and yes i put the screen back on the S1 and no I wouldn't ride it that far cause the seat still sucks for long distance riding. I rode it to Stugis the first year I had it and thought many times about shipping it home and taking a bus. Once I got there it was great. Sorry for the long winded post. Bob Stubbs MPLS | ||

got a small chip in your pretend as-cast aluminum powder coated swing-arm, engine case, or what have you? Go to the cars parts store, and pick up a can of Plasti-Kote touch up paint, GM 7199 . . .. it will not, obviously mimic the texture of the powder coating, but if the coating is simply discolor by, say, contact with some asphalt on a hot day for instance, the color match is pretty darned close, and will likely be invisable from more than 2 or 3 feet away. If the texture is gone, as well, the color blend will keep the damage far less noticable . . . I used a small artists bruch, sprayed some of the paint into it's own cap, and put on a couple or three very light coats . . . . . . worked for me | ||

What a week: * Rotor is warped * Rear spark plug breaks, leaving most of the insulator to run through the motor. * Speedo Quits * While troubleshooting the speedo, I notice that the "nose" that holds the front of the tank to the frame is fractured. I don't want to play with it too much for fear of breaking it off. Does anyone know if this nose of the 20000 M-2 tank is reinforced in any way, or is it just made of the same plastic as the whole tank? I'm hoping there is a steel plate embedded in it! The tank only has a few hundred miles on it. The original didn't fit right, and now I'm beginning to wonder if the frame isn't out of tolerance, and both tanks were OK. Bike is a Y2K with 1,950 miles on it, and of course is out of warranty when it crumbles into a pile of broken pieces. FUN. | ||

Skeptic... I feel your pain. Your rear rocker box will be the next thing to go (at around 3000 miles), and if your primary chain tensioner is not broken already it will be soon, and you better update that front muffler mount before you break an exhaust header stud. Double nut them immediately anyway, even before you get the updated mount. Thats the bad news. The good news is that these are all reasonably simple reasonably inexpensive fixes. The tank thing is a new one on me. Any evidence the bike was wrecked at any point? Any non obvious pressure points? That is a seriously thick chunk of seriously strong material. Hard to imagine it breaking. Might be able to use a magnet to hunt for metal in there. Bill | ||

I screwed up and put some polish on my black rear pully when dried left white marks. Does anyone know how to remove it. Is Buell doing recall on the fly-screen support brackets. For the 2001 M2, offers better support. Richard | ||

Flyscreen mount recall? Why? Never had any hint of problems on mine. The answer is no, there is no recall on flyscreen mounts. Sheesh. | ||
