I have been riding the S3 off and on for a few weeks this season now with no issues, I went to a bike gathering the other night, and when I went to leave the front brake lever was dead. I had to pump it up to get any braking. Once pumped up, it held fine without a drop in the lever like there was a leak. I made it home OK, but knew I wouldn't be able to look at it for a few days. When I did several days later the brake was working fine. I ( cautiously) rode it a couple more days and it worked fine. The other day the problem finally repeated. Again today the brake lever works fine. I am pretty convinced at this time the front master is bad. A complete replacement is 153.00 from SPHDonline.com My question to the experts here is are there rebuild kits available, or is it not worth the time, and I should go straight to a replacement?

I'd rebuild BUT the first concern I'd have is how old are the rebuild parts?

I finally had time to do the rebuild and still have the problem. I've run about a1/2 pint of fluid trying to bleed the system. It still pumps up but goes dead within minutes. Once pumped it feels solid and does not fade like it would there is air in the system. It kind of looks like replacement is in order

I figured out the problem and it WASN'T the master. Every time I bled the brakes they felt solid in the garage but went dead on every test ride. I finally put the front end in the air to try to see what the problem was. At the last bike event, somebody must have walked their bike back into my brake rotor just hard enough to bend the carrier.
the runout was about .160 on the disc, and that was enough to compress the pistons so that a reapplication was nothing but a dead lever. Im back to operational, but a bunch of other minor issues will keep me busy for the remainder of the season.

Glad you were able to fix the problem, good deal!
