One of you big time machinist types want to make a little part for me.I need a spacer block to go in my kid's Bonneville Yamaha oil filler to give me a spot to return turbo oil to motor.It will have same male thread on one end and fit oil filler cap on other with a threaded hole to attach an oil line. | ||

It'll be interesting to see how this sort of topic flys. I'm not sure if it will. although obviously a one-off dipstick oil return is not even something that would ever be offered by an advertiser here. I'd hate to see this machine board axed. | ||

This one is fine. Total disclosure (tell what you did and how you did it) above board non profit (materials and consumables only) stuff is fine, so long as it does not obviously conflict with a sponsor. Once you start charging labor, we have no way to police "for profit" versus "for fun", so we don't even try. It's either cost only, with full disclosure on what and how (so it gives back to the community) or you need to be a sponsor. Anyone can get a 1 month sponsorship for $100, so it is hard to imagine any real conflict. That cost would be pretty easy to recoup if you were doing any kind of business venture at all. We realize that there are some valuable victims with this policy (*cough* hoser *cough*), but short of paying a full time board adminstrator to police things, we don't have any other choice. A one off triumph part for a custom turbo charged application is hard to find a conflict of any kind with... | ||

Instead of starting a NEW thread with the same idea, I am wondering if someone would be willing to make an adaptor plate for me. The adaptor plate is to mate a TL1000 zuki engine into a Sportster frame. The plate is for the rear of the block to mate to the plate the rear of a Sporty engine mates to. I haven't layed out the drawings as of yet due to time and not having the dimensions of the frameplate the motor would attatch to off hand. Ideas are welcome as well  TIA Wycked/Mikel | ||

If I remember correctly the Suz. TL1000 is a 90 degree V and the front jug sticks almost straight forward. Will it fit in the Sporty frame or are the front down tubes of the Sporty frame going to be in the way? If they are it may be necessary to cut the frame and weld in bent tubing to clear the front jug. Also where are you going to hang the radiator? There may be a clearance problem with the front wheel. And are you going to run a 180 rear tire? I don't know if it will fit in the Sporty swingarm. And whether you run a 180 tire or not you will have to shim out the rear sprocket in order to align the sprockets. KK | ||

The overall length of the TL engine is equal to the length of the Tubers. Originally I was going to put the TL into an S3 frame in a bolt in configuration BUT the TL motor is also narrower then the sporty engine, the mounting system would probably cause me to have to modify the S3 frame and I don't want to do that. I was going to use a FatCatz tank/rearfender configuration for the water tank and use two motocross radiators in custom shrouds ala V-rod off the front down tubes. Hopefully in the next week I can get the plate measurements done for the bolt alignment. | ||

I am thinking of using two motocross radiators mounted behind the motor at angles with the inner fan shroud being the rear fender. I am still working out the fan layout. That fine looking piece of work hanging off the front of the engine below the front jug is an oilcooler. That may get changed for a set of the Kooltubes style oilcoolers to mate with the front downtubes. Oh and I was going to use a FatCatz tank/rearfender for the radiator overflow/catch can. | ||

You are going to an awful lot of trouble to modify this Sporty frame. Seems to me you would be better off to saw off the Sporty steering head and weld it to an entirely new construction which was designed to take all the Suz. TL1000 parts. There was nothing actually wrong with the original TL1000 frame except for the funky rear rotary dampening system which is why Suzuki abandoned the design. By maintaining the Sporty heady you can insure & license the bike as a Sporty and not have to go through all the DMV bullcrap for a special construction [I think [laws differ from state to state]]. Its for a rigid framed chop/bobber. The frame will come with an MSO so the DMV won't be a problem. With the exception of the rear plate, and a set of triangulated braces for the front jug head mount most of the fabrication will be in sheetmetal work. | ||

Why am I not surprised? I suspect this is going to look very strange. Please post a picture of it when you get done. This ought to be very interesting. As for your one off engine mounting brackets I can't help you since I don't have a milling machine. I plan to build my shop this spring and buy a mill so I can do special constructions [crotch rockets not choppers] but that's several months down the road. Good Luck.
