I've had 4 XBs (two now, an X and an Ss), and I'm puzzled by the stiffer than normal shifting on the Uly. When I compare the effort to move the shift lever by hand, it's pretty easy on the Ss, but not so much so on the Uly. The Uly has fresh Quicksilver 20W 50W full Syn oil, BTW. It almost seems like the shift shaft is binding in the primary cover. I had the primary cover off for a different reason not too long ago, but I'm not sure how I could have done anything to cause binding when I reinstalled the cover. I'm thinking I need to pull the cover again, use some steel wool and grease on the shift shaft, and install a new seal in the primary cover. I was curious if this was a known issue? (never had it on any other of my XB12s).

Were it me, having had the primary cover off, I would go through the clutch adjustment procedure, step by step.

While in there, confirm that the 'ears' that the rotating plate rides on are in good condition.

As Al from American Sport Bike always said "Check what you did last."

Hope this helps, Dave

I don't assume that this is your issue since you said you tried shifting by hand and still noticed a difference... but lately on my S1 I pulled off the shift left to change the bushing on the shift shaft. I thought I had put it back on in the same position, but the small piece that clamps onto the shift shape was 1 tooth off in the counter-clockwise direction, and it completely messed up the way my bike shifted and made it very difficult. I wouldn't have thought it would've made that much of a difference, but I moved it one tooth clockwise and everything in the world was good again. Work double checking.
