Hello. Anyone knows why the Buell XB rocker box has some asymmetrical features while it is mostly symmetrical part and the same rocker box part is used for the rear and the front cylinders?   | ||

Those two taller posts are for the Sportster engines, the breathers bolt to those and go into those long open passages next to the roller pin bushings. | ||

Yeah. But why they did not mirror the ribs on the left and the right sides of the rocker box and make those ribs around the posts different while the posts and another geometry are symmetrical. Same thing is with that rib goes from the rocker arm mounting hole, the rib has 55 deg angle on the left side and 60 deg angle on the right side. Why those features are not the same? Maybe it is because of that breather thing on the Sportster engine are not symmetrical? (Message edited by TPEHAK on April 08, 2021) | ||

Not sure, maybe a manufacturing cost issue to work with some modified already existing tooling. You sure do put a lot of time and effort into something you clearly hate so much. | ||

I hate those leaking rocker boxes with crappy sealing interface Harley and Buell did not fix for 30 years with crappy machining work. I decided to design and machine my own rocker boxes, covers and PCV valves with different sealing interface with better seal to fix this POS once and for all. I bought a brand new Buell XB rocker box cover for reverse engineering and the gasket mating surfaces are out of flatness like about 0.5-1mm you can see with naked eye without filler gauge. WTF Buell? If I would sand this gasket surface manually with woodblock and sandpaper I would do better work than Buell machinist.    (Message edited by TPEHAK on April 09, 2021) | ||

I thought the O-ring gaskets were not a bad idea - the air-cooled engine makes top end oil leaks inevitable at some point. The heat cycling on the air-cooled engine, especially since it is highly tuned for performance really just make it a routine necessity for servicing. |
