My bike came with a Zumo 550. Figured I might as well update the maps but I'm stumped.

I've tried the lifetime updater and mapinstall and I get a message "no unlocked maps were found for this device". Googling hasn't provided a clear path forward. There's a 16 GB card in the unit so space isn't the problem.

I realize the unit is old and this may be a no go but I thought I might as well ask.

Thanks,

Hey Greg, usually you would use the Garmin Express program to update the maps, assuming they are available (I don't know if they still support the 550)

https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/express/

I don't believe the 550 has free updates like some newer units, so you may need to pay for the update.

As an alternative, you can download maps for free from OpenStreetMap and install them on the Garmin. I've not personally tried it, but here are the steps on how to do that - https://www.navigation-professionell.de/en/how-to- install-free-osm-maps-on-your-garmin-gps/

I just updated mine to the latest firmware and then attempted to update the maps, but for some fun reason it will only allow me to install Canada and the border states.

I need to call as mine does have lifetime updates. I'll post back here if I learn anything. Their software is not user friendly or intuitive at ALL.

Garmin offers different packages of maps for each part of the globe. It sounds like yours was the Canadian package, not the more expensive one that contains the entire continent.

Their customer service tends to be great, hopefully they can figure this out.

It's updated!

I used the Garmin Express program Froggy linked to. Super easy. Recognized the Zumo right away. A click or two later it was downloading the maps (Canada and the border states). Took about an hour.

Thanks!
