I have a 99 x1. I turn the key and can't hear the fuel pump kick on. Engine turns over. Light on, all that. What's the first thing I check?

Fuse maybe!? ,or try with bypassing the electrics if pump will prime.

After checking the fuses, and confirming they are all OK, try swapping the relays one for the other. They are both identical. If everything works after the swap, it could be one of the relays is weak, or corrosion had built up on the relay contacts.

Might also want to confirm, with a multimeter, that the ign switch is working as it should. Might even try bypassing the switch and see if everything works.

Hope this helps, Dave

Checked fuses, switched the relays. Puts known good buell ignition switch on. No difference. How does one check the fuel pump itself out?

Got the fuel pump problem solved. But there appears to be no fuel pressure at the injectors. How would I go about checking fuel pressure?

Does the pump run?
Maybe pressure regulator!?

The pump does run now. How would I check the regulator. I know that when I hold the fuel rail with injectors in it and crank the engine it kind of pees out instead of a nice spray.

Your local auto parts place of choice probably has fuel pressure test kits they loan out.

Since you are that far along, unplug the fuel line from the fuel rail and place the fuel pressure gauge there. If all is back together, there is a Schrader valve under the fuel tank where the fuel line leaves the tank. Might do to check both places in case the problem is a clogged fuel filter.

The service manual calls for 49PSI, and a flow of 70LPH at 49PSI.

Hope this helps, Dave

Thanks Dave. I'll give it a try.
