Recently procured a '98 Thunderbolt and '00 Lightning
Thunderbolt had a Works shock
Blew that one
Took the Penske off the Lightning (Fueling problems kept Lightning in the shed)
Thunderbolt way better
Ordered a new Penske for Lightning, same length as WP and Penske take-off
Problem: Lightning with new Penske 16" eye to eye rides too low...
Question: Anyone know the OE length for '00 Lightning rear shock?

By '00 lightning you mean the X1
That has the 14,9 inch shock

You could also go for a earlier front shock mount.
(for the 16,54 inch shock you already bought.

They switched somewhere around 99/2000
So that are mostly the M2 cyclone's that can have the long and or the short shock and mounts.
But there are also a lot of recall shocks and mounts done in the years ,so you have to measure what's on the bike and compare the front shock mounts

Reading your first text ,did you actually order or got a shock with the wrong length for the 00' bike
Or didn't measure before ordering!?

Shocks on both bikes are same length, which is why ordered new Penske in 16.5 length
Might be previous owner installed incorrect size
Lightning with new 16.5 Penske sits low in rear
Swing arm angle is almost flat
Steering OK
Lazy to wheelie

Maybe you have a lowered shock mount on your lightning!?

Here you can see the difference between early and late mounts,

I have a 2000 m2 and a 2000 s3t both with the 14.7" shock. would anybody know if someone has a lowering shock mount out there that would lower ether 1" or 1"1/2 ? It would have to be approximately 1/2" longer on the shock mount for a 1" drop. And a 3/4" for a 1 1/2" drop.}}
