2008 xb12scg: loud rubbing/grinding sound when the clutch is disengaged and in gear only. It stops the sound as soon as the bike starts moving and does not do it again during riding until you stop with the clutch disengaged and in gear.
Ive also noticed that when coasting with the clutch disengaged but still in gear the sound doesnt start back up until a complete stop. Ive replaced the throw out bearing hoping it was the problem but with no success. It shifts and pulls smoothly thru all gears and the motor runs perfect. This sound is not present in nuetral while clutch is engaged or disengaged. I have not pulled the primary off yet
Thank you for your time in advance for your wisdom.

Might take the inspection covers off of the primary, then 2 checks.

Reach in and try to rock the clutch basket up and down and back and forth. Hopefully, no movement will be detected.

Check and confirm that the primary chain is properly adjusted. IF it is too loose, it MAY cause the noise you hear.

Hope this helps, Dave

Thank you, sir. I have adjusted the primary chain to 3/8 cold adjustment prior to my asking for help. I will definitely check for that looseness that you have described. I've recently purchased the lightening. A year ago May 25th 2016 i was riding my 07 xb12r when a car came into my lane without warning and hit me head on. Spent 3mths in the hospital with 22 surgeries so this is my first buell since the wreck. It may be a few days before i can pull the cover but I will post my findings

In studying the parts book, another possibility comes to mind.

The adjustment screw ( #7 in the parts book) rides on a bearing ( #2) and release plate ( #12) would deserve inspection.

Thank you. I adjusted that properly when i installed the bearing. I haven't had a chance yet to check the basket free play but will in the next few days.

I was able to get to storage today and remove the inspection cover. I pushed and pulled and could not get the basket to move at all. It felt firm but i believe I'm going to have to remove the primary cover to inspect it better

Check your final drive pulley (the front pulley your drive belt rides on).

My symptom was a squeaking once bike started rolling but stopped after about 10mph and then squeaking when coming to a stop at about 10mph and below.

I've had mine on the S2T loosen because the nut retainer plate was worn. Fortunately, the pulley spines are softer (sacrificial) than the final drive spines from the transmission.

If this does turn out to be your issue then it's cheap to fix. Readily available HD parts.

Thank you for the input. There is absolutely no sound once the clutch is engaged and bike is moving. The sound is only audible when in gear and clutch disengaged at a stand still. Thinking it may be the clutch hub bearing

Can anyone tell me if a whole clutch assembly from an 06 xb12 Ulysses will work as a replacement for my 08 xb12scg? I've located one and the seller says he believes that it will. If I just replace the bearing on my scg It will cost me $80 for the bearing and $100 for labor. If I buy the unit for swapping it'll cost me $250 and I can install myself. I would rather buy another unit(If it fits) and have spare parts for possible later repairs. Thanks in advance for any replies

Ok, problem solved and fixed. The clutch hub bearing definitely was the problem. It also had an ever so slightly damaged bearing race. Bike runs excellent now. Thank you fellows for the replies.
