The battery on my 2000 M2 finally gave out on year 2013 at 25,000 miles. Original battery with a date code for 1999. I replaced it with a battery from Cycle Gear, it lasted less than a year. As much as I hate to pay Harley prices I will from now on use their brand. My 2002 M2 still has the original.

I can't offer a better alternative, but I can say I had the same experience with the 2003 and earlier Harley batteries. Fair price, best longevity I ever got out of a motorcycle battery.

Since 2005 or so, the Harley batteries I bought (at least two the) only lasted a couple years. So not terrible, but not any better than other cheaper junk either.

I'm not the only one.

It would be nice if we could find a good solid reliable battery for the Buells.

The Duracell from Batteries Plus / Batteries & Bulbs depending on where you live has the best warranty. It's full replacement for two years not a pro-rate. Whether it's better than HD??? Froggy claims the HD's don't seem as good as they used to and has switch his fleet to Duracell. I haven't had mine long enough to say but so far so good.

I can say that the Decca I had hopes for turned out to be a bust.

I thought Frank recently noted he wasn't getting much life out of the duracells.

Though at least that way you know you will get two years out of it.

I have to agree with Bill, I've had the best luck with HD batteries. I have HD's in all of our Buell's as do all the ones I do regular work on for other folks. Had a friend try a couple of different brands and finally went back to the HD unit.
I usually get well over 4 years out of mine. As long as you keep a tender on them over the winter they seem to be pretty happy.

Just ordered a Deka ETX20L from for my 1999 Cyclone from techbatterysolutionscom , great service and great price. I bought another Deka from them last year for the Uly which runs great. If you order from them you can get additional 5% discount putting TBS in the promo code. Just a happy customer.Total paid including free shipping was $83.55.

looks like I did not catch some typos in my post, so let me fix it... the link is http://www.techbatterysolutions.com/
They make the H-D batteries or at least used to.

my brain went dead...I meant to say Deka batteries are made by East Penn in PA, and they are or were the battery supplier for H-D. the link is for a seller out of OH, I had great experience with them.

I wound up getting the "Motocross" brand battery, I'd never heard of it. Supposedly made by Yuasa, says Made in the USA in big letters on the front.
$80 delivered, its AGM, about 12 pounds. Its a bit taller than the Odyssey, but the CCA is literally double. Works good, I'm so glad it wasn't the starter clutch again...

I bought a Deltran lithium battery last year. It's about the size of 2 bars of soap and weights about the same for @$100 from Walmart.com . It works great with 280cca and we all know ever pound helps. This battery weighs 1/10 of what the old HD battery weights.

What bike is that Deltran going in?

Anyone know if the Deltran is any better than a Shorai? I'm seeing a Shorai LFX27L3-BS12 on amazon.com for $211 free shipping. Best value I've seen. Of course there's a open box "used" for $179 if you're willing to take your chances.
Anyone have a reason not to buy it? I know back in 2011-12 there were issues but they just upped their warranty October 2016.

"Shorai Inc. offers a Limited Five-Year Warranty for LFX batteries, for defects in material and/or workmanship, pertaining to sales originating and delivered within the United States.
Please Note: Warranty became 5-year prorated on October 5 2016, Shorai has extended the warranty period to apply to all previous sales"

I'm having trouble cranking over Ulysses xb12x, It's like it gets to the compression stroke then doesn't have enough to turn her further. Thought it was solenoid, so did the repair kit, still the same. Any ideas folks

Funkel:
Your profile does not tell us what year your Uly is.

I would take out the battery and take it to a battery shop for a load test.

Probably the battery is dying.

I've had good luck with John Deere lawn tractor batteries. Had one last me 5 years, no tender or anything.
