I have a Buell Lightning and it is a green color, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if that was a factory color or not? It also has just the big "Buell" on the tank and is missing the lettering underneath he Buell like I see on most X1s, anyone know why? Maybe just custom job? Also I am new to the community so Hello! And thank you all!

Welcome Lucas and congrats on your new Buell.

I don't know that much about the X1's. I don't think there was ever a Green one but there were a few limited release paint jobs. Most of those were quite loud and busy, not just a plain color. I think all Buell's had "American Motorcycles" below the Buell letters or stickers on the tank.

If you can post up some pictures that would be helpful to all. The board doesn't take large pictures. If you use a picture re-size tool and make them small you can then use the "Upload Attachment" button to attach them to a message. I use an Android app called "Photo Resizer".

Looks good but I don't think that is a factory color. Looks like Kawasaki Green. Nice looking bike. You should look at the Old School section of Badweb. That is where all of the "TUBER" Buell owners post. The Factory spec for the drive belt is too tight and will lead to lots of problems with bearings. It should be run very loose and your appears taught.

Is that something I should bring up to my mechanic?

If he does the maintenance on it then yes its a important thing to talk about.
But you can do that too ,it's nice to work on your own bike!

Btw welcome here ,and show a couple more pictures from your new purchase in the old school section.

I will share more when I get the chance! And are there any forums or videos on how to do it myself?

Get a factory service manual. An excellent resource. Between that and The Badweb, there are very few items that cannot be addressed by an owner at home.

Hope this helps, Dave
