Last year while on my way to work, the bike started to run rough and got so bad I had to pull over. It eventually stopped and nothing would work. A friend suggested that I put a new battery in but it still would not start as in no clicking of the relay or spinning of the starter. As I tried to figure out what was wrong, I realized that my rear brake switch no longer worked so I changed it. Brake light worked and the bike would start! So I figured I would take it out for quick ride and before I could back it out of the garage, it quit. Then there was no further response from the starter although all the lights seemed to work fine. This year, I bought a new starter relay since there was no clicking coming from it when I tried to start the bike but that didn't change anything. I can measure a 12v change at the connector to the starter relay when I depress the starter switch so juice seems to be getting there. If I connect the starter directly to the battery, it spins so it works. This bike was a project bike for somebody who was a great starter of projects but not much of a finisher. He had butchered the fairing stay and was in the process of making something out of it, I'm not sure what so many of the wires for the dash lights, tach and speedo were just cut and left hanging. I was able to rebuild the fairing stay and have bought all the bulbs, sockets and a new tach and believe I have all of that part under control but I can't help but wonder if I am missing something. There is a white green wire that comes out of the tach that's purpose I do not know. It is identified in the manual but it doesn't say what it is for and it shows it going to a 12 pin connector. If I remember correctly, the bike would start in gear and while the side stand was up and I do not think it is supposed to. I am not so concerned about those interlocks except for they might be what is preventing me from starting the bike. The 12v at the relay seems to indicate that they are not the problem.
Anyway, I would love some help here if anybody has any ideas.
