Does anyone know how much oil actually makes it's way up to the top of the rocker boxes? The reason I am asking is I am finishing up my engine rebuild project and I am getting what sounds like excessive valve train noise. I pulled the rocker covers and started the engine to see what is going on. The valves are not hitting the piston, and I have adjusted and adjusted the pushrods, and the rockers are not hitting the covers. When looking through all of this, I noticed that I am not getting much oil to the top end. There is some, just not a lot as the MM would suggest, Is this right? Also any thoughts on the excessive noise?

Thanks!!

Unless the motor is at high revs for some time you'll see very little oil making its way up there.

As far as the noise issue, you'd have to elaborate.

It sounds like the normal HD noise, just louder. Normally I could hear some tapping in the top end and just figured it was the typical Harley valve noise of the tapet rockers and the valves moving. Now I have S&S roller rockers, Crane adjustable push rods, and Fueling lifters. The springs are Zippers 625 Pro-Street kit, w/titanium top collars and the valves are Stainless Steel valves.

I have adjusted the push rods several times (loosened and tightened some) to see if that was the issue, but the noise is still there. From what I can see, nothing is hitting anywhere, it's just a louder clacking noise that should be.

Roller rockers are usually noticeably noisier than stock.

That's what I was kind of thinking, but I had someone else come over and they thought something was wrong too, so I guess this weekend I'm going to have it looked over by a HD mechanic friend of mine to see what he thinks. I'll keep ya posted as to the results.
