hello all!

new xb12ss owner here... bought bike a few days ago with a low idle. hooked up ecmspy and cable in order of Dave's YouTube video and proceeded to back out throttle screw until reading zeroed out. BUT when I switched to diagnostics tab to tps reset it never read zero. the box was red and 5 and stayed red and 5 before and after reset commands. went back to overview and no readings no matter how much I tightened the screw. now she won't start. can anyone help me out here?

btw, I'm not a forums newbie by any means but the schematics of this forum have me confused on where to truly find info or place a new thread appropriately and the search function, bc I know someone's gonna chime in, doesn't yield accurate results for my symptom. in the event that that answer is out there, please direct me and I will be grateful!

It doesn't go to zero. It is what it is, and you just tell the computer "when it is here we are closed".

The TPS is just a variable resistor (like the knob on an old stereo) that turns with the throttle butterfly.

These things are really hard to build to an absolute position (being mechanical), so you don't bother trying.

You simply adjust it all the way down, and tell the computer "this is as low as it goes". The computer then takes that value, and assumes that when the TPS is there, it is all the way closed.

So you aren't trying to make it read zero, you are just closing the throttle all the way, and telling the computer "when it is here it is closed".

It definitely goes to zero (at least when everything is adjusted correct). If You see a red window with the number 5 in it then You´re simply looking at the wrong data field. The window with the 5 tells You if the camshaft position sensor is open or closed (helpful for adjusting the position of the sensor plate). If You want to see the TPS sensor data You have to go to the page where all data are gathered. TPS should be in the top left corner (depending on Your ECM Spy version). So You have to switch between the pages to get what You want to see.

Regards
Alex
