03 XB9R. I'm getting a sliding/light rasping sound from the front wheel/rotor/brake caliper assembly as I roll forward. Without the engine on it's a consistent sound, with the engine on and rolling in first gear I still hear it, though it seems to be slightly intermittent. This is without pulling on the brake lever, mind you... Is this normal for Buells? My old Honda never made noises like this, lol (basis for comparison, it had similar Nissin brakes). I'm rebuilding my xb9r and I just want to make sure my brake system is up to spec before riding it as a daily (or even taking it out on public roads lol!) Now, if I pull the lever does it stop? Sure, though it takes a handful of lever - more than I'm accustomed to anyway. No real 'bite' even when I'm grabbing the brake like a teenager at prom. Fluid levels seem fine. The rear brake cylinder was frozen solid when I got the bike. I managed to rebuild it and it seems to actuate, though with very, very little actual braking even fully actuated. Similar rasping sound from the rear brake caliper. I'll probably end up bleeding it again, maybe it's the pads? Any help or advice is very, very much appreciated! Finally got the bike moving today and I'm excited - but I really want to be able to stop safely!  | ||

If it's braking that bad ,you better check the brake fluid and refresh it. (take your time for it so you have less air bubbles) Also clean all the crap that's in the reservoir. Clean and grease also the area where the brake lever pushes the rod into the mc. Is the front brake disk moving free? (push it against the rim and see if there is some movement on all bolt areas) And is the brake disc clean and dry? For the rear brake caliper ,make sure it can move on the slide pins. Fresh grease can do wonder sometimes. |
