Bought a 2006 Firebolt with 19K miles, haven't found anything wrong with it and all diagnostics run clear with software. Today I decided to get on it for the first time and it slipped in first gear at higher RPMs. Jetted off the block a few more times to be sure and same result, kinda like you missed the gear but only just before you feel the need to shift to second. Unless there is some over rev safety feature this sounds pricey to fix. Didn't notice it since purchase because it doesn't do it at lower RPMs. Any Idea how serious this is? |

There is an over rev feature that will cut the ignition. Are you are redline? If so, situation normal. This is a long stroke motor. On the upside, that gives you good fuel economy and great power at low RPM. On the downside, the maximum RPM's is then limited by the physics of how well a film of lubricant a few molecules thick can hold as a piston ring is pulled across a cylinder wall. |
