Hey guys so I bought an 03 buell blast last November and I've loved it so far. However, it's starter giving me some trouble. It kept dying on me and I realized the top of the spark plug was coming off. I replaced the spark plug and was off... Temporarily. After 1 long ride, the bike quit on me the next day coming home from work. It cranks and will start up but then it begins backfiring and slowly idles itself to death. After it dies you can't start it for a while at all.

I've replaced the spark plug, the spark plug wire, and the ECM. I've tested the coil pack and it had a proper reading. I've bypassed the BAS and that didn't change anything. The bike will start right up with starter fluid with the starter bitten pushed down but dies immediately when the button is released.

I'm hoping you guys might have some ideas about what else I can check out. Im at my wits end with this, I really just want to get on the road!

First, check with the folks in the Thumper forum; they know the Blast.

Since you have essentially replaced the ign system, except for the CPS, I would look to the fuel system. Is the intake boot cracked/leaking? Is the fuel tank vent clogged? Pull the float bowl and see if there is a collection of stuff that shouldn't be there. Is fuel getting to the carb from the tank?
Seems a systematic check of the fuel system from the gas cap to the intake is in order.

Hope this helps, Dave
